September 2012 Moms

Looks like you are stuck with me.

After another really bad night last night, DH & I decided that this SHOULD be my last week at work.

But, apparently work has other plans. Unless I am put on bed rest or I deliver, I have no options for leaving early.

I go to the MW this afternoon, I am curious to see if all of this "action" has caused any progress, but knowing my stubborn cervix, I doubt that it has. Did you guys know that your cervix can actually close back up? Yeah, it can. YWIA for that one.

  • Can your mw not write you out sooner? Honestly I cannot imagine working right now. I felt great until last week.

You only bump while working, so I say you work as much as possible!

  • Why does work get such a say?  That blows.

Not that I'm complaining about keeping your shiny platinum tushie here a little longer.

  • Please tell me you can/will bump from home, otherwise I say you work until you go into labor!

On a different note, can a MW be a man? If so is he then called a Mid husband?

I asked my OB about this and she told me it was both illegal (?) and unethical for her to write me out early unless there was a clear medical reason to do so. Basically that being "uncomfortable" isn't enough of a reason. I only get STD, though, and not FMLA, if that makes a difference.

This is me too, but I only hae FMLA, and no STD.  I have the option of using vacation time, but since I'm using that as an add on to my FMLA, i'm stuck at work until she decides to get here.  Which is fine because it's a great distraction from the rest of my life right now.  Thankfully I can close my office door and mostly ignore people this time of year.  Students don't come back for me until next Wednesday so that's another plus!

  • My doc told me that he'd write a doc's order to stop working any time after 36 weeks even if I don't really "need" it. Could your MW do the same for you? This is my last week at work but I did not need the doc's note because my boss is pretty relaxed (and I work in a teeny tiny company).

My OB put me on half days and I'm disabled for the other half day. I just need to decide which half day I want to work. Mornings or afternoons.
I say mornings. If you do afternoons, chances are you will be exhausted by the time you get to work.

well, because I have no PTO, they make you use that before you go out. (Yes, it's as ridiculous as it sounds) So, I would basically have to quit & then be a rehire.

here are a couple tips;  Don't try to add to your tribe when you are almost 35. And whatever you do DON'T try to do it so soon after adding to said tribe. Screw it, Stop NOW. Trust me when I tell you this pregnancy is by far the worst I have been through. That's saying something.

Why do I picture a guy with a greasy ponytail and Birkenstocks?

    Oh for sure...total hippy look.

    Random things I know.....

midwife is from middle english meaning with woman, so it would be used for a man or a woman.  During my first appt with my MW I had a student basically do the appointment and he was a dude. So apparently , yes, but I don't know how common

I'd kill to be out of work right now.  I can barely walk and my boss is full on bat *** crazy.....she's sympathetic so I guess that gets her points.

  • Ohh that happened to my aunt too.  She was in active labor, got to 8cm, and her cervix closed back up before she could dilate further.

Hopefully you get some relief soon =(

    Why dont you get FMLA?

  • When I told my Dr. I was working until 2 weeks before my EDD she thought I was nuts.  She said it's up to me but any time after 36 weeks it is reasonable for me to stay home.  It may have something to do with the fact I am considered high risk for being the ripe age of 40. My work pays up to 2 weeks before EDD and 12 after.

Meh...more like dreads and birkenstocks.   True hippies either dread their hair or wash it regularly.   :-)
