It's acutally at my parents house. They have a fence around the pool, but their kitchen and family room have doors that open to the deck which is just steps to the pool-no additional safe guards except for the doors.
There are latches up high. I worry that some one will leave them open and he could just wander out there-not that he's ever unsupervised for long periods of time-but if the door is open it could happen in the time it takes you to respond to a text message, ya know?

There are a bunch of different kinds of pool alarms - ones that go on the door going outside, ones that sound if there is a ripple in the pool, and even ones that the kid wears like a watch and it sounds if it gets wet. They can be expensive, but worth it obviously. We grew up with a motion alarm in the pool. It worked great and literally saved my brother's life, but if a bird lands in the darn pool it goes off and everyone panics looking for the kids! lol
Have you thought about door knob covers? It might be a simple solution since they make them for both knobs and levers.
"I wanted you more than you'll ever know, so I sent love to follow wherever you go."

I was going to suggest this too. My bff used to have them when her kids were little and I had trouble with them as an adult, lol.

The doors swing open unless locked-really convenient when you have your hands full and are walking out to the pool-not so great for child security. I have done some research and I like the idea of the arm band for him-less false alarms, etc. I was just wondering if anyone had first had experience with any of them and could attest to how well or poorly it worked.

My parents have gates, but they have a cover what you can walk on. We just do not open the pool until we are ready. I did not know they havere the wrist band ones though. We are looking into that now.
