My DS does not have allergies, thankfully, but one of his little friends in preschool does and I am making brownies to bring for my son's birthday. It's a mix and I read all the ingredients on the box (Duncan Hines) and it has no mention of being made in a facility that also processes nuts -- it only says it may contain wheat and milk.
Would you feel comfortable with your child having a brownie like this? I don't want this little boy to be excluded or endanger his health. I realize how serious a food allergy can be as my nephew was allergic to eggs for several years (outgrew it).
Thanks for any replies.
Re: Question for Peanut Allergy Parents
I hope my son goes to school with kids that have parents like you! The thought means a lot. With that said, it depends if cross contamination is a deal for that child. It is for mine and i unfortunately am teaching my son that he is not allowed to eat anything without mommy/daddy reading ingredients or baking it at home.
I would contact the mom and ask. If she feels comfortable than great, if not than I would go to a whole foods store (or any health food store) and buy a box of cookies that are top 8 free (enjoy life makes yummy ones).
My son starts school soon and i hope there are some thoughtful parents like you!
Nope. I would not let DD eat something made in a home that eats peanuts. Too much room for cross contamination IMO. What if the spoon you used was used in a PB sandwich and not washed thouroughly enough? I'm not saying you are clean or careful -- but I could not trust it.
I would contact the mom and let her know ahead of time so she could bring an appropriate cake/ snack for her child so that he could still participate. I'm sure she would appreciate it greatly if you gave her the heads up and let her decide.
This exactly!
