It really is expensive. That's a huge reason why we're holding off on going (if we are ever able to make the trip) until she's older and can appreciate it a little more - for us, it probably will be a once in a lifetime type of deal, especially since we have other awesome amusement parks nearby.

When we went on our honeymoon, we got 2 nights in a resort plus 2 day passes for free for sitting through one of those godawful 90 minute timeshare spiels. Might be something to look into to take off the burden especially if you're traveling with all adults.

This is the only way I am able to go. I simply cannot afford to stay at one of their resorts. My bro and SIL took their 3 kids a few years ago, stayed at a resort, and spent $10,000 frakking dollars on ONE vacation!!!11!! Wtf.

Have you checked hotels in Kissimmee? They all have shuttles (or,nearly all) to the parks. And you have to buy the tickets in a series of days to get any discount at all

Ive lived here for 12 years and have been to Disney three times. I think it's over priced and over hyped,but that's just me.

Now I think that would be a fun time to go, but she probably hated it, which makes me giggle a little every time it think about it. Maybe you could get a better deal then?

If yougo before labor day, that's peak season. After labor day, it's considered off season. Think mid September.

I skimmed thru the responses and don't remember seeing this so I hope I'm not repeating anyone....You can get a free Disney Meal Plan if you book btwn 9/30/12-12/12 when you stay at a Disney resort for 7 days. This may help some with the cost.

We went in March and spent just under 3 grand and that included food and air fare as well as a 2 day pass to Universal Studios as well. We stayed at the Port Orleans Riverside. If we had stayed at a value it would have been cheaper. Look into AAA. It was a lot cheaper then booking through Disney plus they sent us a refund check and all kinds of free perks.

ETA we went for 7 nights hotel and 5 day park hopper pass.

What? You must be going during the peak season. We're going at the end of October and for the three of us (actually 2 since DD is under 3 and free), it's only about $1500. That includes the meal plan, 4 nights in a moderate hotel and park hopper tickets.

ETA: why are you pricing for 4 people? You're only going to be paying for the two of you, right? Price two people. Check the difference between moderate and value resorts. For us, it was about $250 cheaper to stay at a value resort, but I wanted the extra sq. footage in the room.

And why are you trying to go in September! You're from the South; you know it's going to be hot as hell!

You are just like me. I haven't been since I was in 7th grade so that's been like 20 years. Yikes. I didn't know anything.

There are three different types of meal plans. All quick service, Regular dining and Super dining or something like that. Quick service is like a cafeteria or fast food, not sit down with a waiter/waitress bringing your food - with that plan, you get two quick service meals per person per night. Regular dining, you get one quick service and one sit down meal per person, per night. We're not even going to talk about the other one b/c it's super expensive and I don't think anyone with a toddler wants that many sit down meals. You also get one or two snacks per person per day depending on the plan.

You can eat those meals at any Disney park or resort.

ETA: you get as many days of food as nights you are staying. For example, we're staying 4 nights so H and I each get 4 quick service meals, 4 sit down meals and 4 snacks with the regular dining plan. DD eats off of our plates.

I would do a meal plan. We take our own waters and into the parks to save $$ and splurge on lunch. Lunch for 2 adults and 2 kids ran us about $60 last time I was there. And thats at one of their cafeteria style eateries, not a sit down restaurant. Water is expensive, ice cream is expensive, treats are expensive....kind of a bummer that they charge so much

I've never been to Disney at all (cue sad violins or sumshitsx). most menus are available on the blogs for quick service, and menus for TS are on the DW site. it's all expensive. we wanted to do quite a few character meals for DD, so we booked the free QS dining, and upgraded to Deluxe (3 meals, 2 snacks). there are sites that tell you how to completely maximize your meal plan dollar, with the most expensive quick service, snack, table service per park.

Yeah, Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, resorts, etc. Anywhere that's on Disney property.

there are qs places everywhere. you can eat whenever/wherever, as long as it's not a sit down. you'll have to upgrade for that.
