Thoughts on Margot?

This name has been growing on me so much lately! I've always thought of it to be kind of a "holier than thou" name meant for rich girls, but I think mostly that is because of how I have seen it in the media, because I have never actually met anyone named Margot IRL. I think it is a name that I can see being pretty and appropriate at evey life stage. What are your thoughts on Margot/connotations with the name?

Also, how would you spell it? I used to like the spelling Margaux (Margeaux), but now I think it is too much. I have also seen in as Margo.

  • I'm far from a fan of the name, but it is perfectly acceptable, and Margot is my preferred spelling as well.  I'd pair it with a feminine middle name (I have a very unisex name and hated it, so I'm biased. Not that Margot is unisex - it's just not particularly feminine either.)

  • I like Margot, H and I played around with that name for awhile, but we went back to original #1 name we've always loved, use it. It's gorgeous.

    I don't understand that point.

I find Margot/Margo to be a lovely name, actually it's one we're considering if this baby is a girl.

While I like the Margot spelling the best, we'll probably use the Margo spelling. People are idiots and I'd hate for my kid to have a lifetime of "Mar-Got" or "Maggot". I feel like the spelling Margo is easier on the eyes.

  • LOVE IT. Don't spell it differently, it's beautiful just like that.

My philosophy is, if there isn't some little old man or lady out there with the same name, then it's not the name for my baby. LOL.

My husband shot this one down real quick, but I'm in love with it.

  • I love Margot, and love the spelling, but it always makes me sad when I hear it. I read "Diary of a Young Girl" in the 3rd grade and never got over it. Even now I tear up- stupid pregnancy hormones......
