A while back I wrote how we had contemplated moving back in with my parents (NOT MIL don't worry, my parents are amazing).
Well we're going to do it. In like 3 weeks. It involves a 7 hour move, breaking our lease and DH starting a new job. Thankfully, it's also our hometown and our friends are there. The one downside is being 15 minutes from the IL's. DH went to a vendor of a company we used to work for and ran into an old coworker. Got him an interview and they called him back. They officially offered him a job tonight.
We will be living rent-free (outside of contributing to utilities). We will have live-in help. My dad works from home and my mom works part time a few hours a month. My parents have an apartment in their home that my grandparents used to live in. Our kitchens will connect with a door but we will have our own complete separate space. separate front door and back door. the only thing we have to share is laundry. Right now DH's commute is 1 hour each way into the snowbelt. We dont' get a ton of snow here, but 20 mi north they can get 2-3 feet more than us and then up at work it's all ice because of the lake (we live right by one of the great lakes). His new commute will be about 10 miles.
we will lose a lot of the comprehensive EI we have now. They have a 2yo preschool here and it's really easy to qualify for therapy with DS's severe hypertonia. And it's all in the taxes, no co-pays. We'll be moving to NJ with co-pays and hopefully therapy that helps him just as much.
We will also have to cobra our health insurance for 90 days. And right now we live in the Midwest. I LOVE it here physically. We're about 30 min north of amish country complete with sprawling farms spreading out over rolling hills. It's a laid back lifestyle and people are much more connecting. My hometown is straight out of real housewives of new jersey. it's going to be an adjustment.
Re: Well me made our decision
and there's always new hope and peddler's village
and when i said my hometown was out of real housewives of new jersey, i meant it literally. that's what i'm not looking forward to. It seems ever since that aired now EVERYONE is trying to live that lifestyle.
Hey neighbor-ish! I do agree with Auntie - NJ is great for schools and services for our kids. I have a friend who works as a para professional at a school and she always speaks very well of the school she works out of. Her charge is an autistic boy who she just adores.
Good luck with your move and welcome to the east coast!
Morris County. DH will be working in Parsippany.
We'll be "neighbors" as I live in Somerset County. I am VP of an advocate group in the area if you want info. We do monthly trainings on different topics related to special needs.
We also live in Morris County and my DH also works in Parsippany. I am out of work and looking desperately... I'm glad your DH found something.
Please feel free to message me once you're settled if you would like to correspond off the Bump.
