TTC after 35

Introducing myself

I have been lurking for a few weeks but I wanted to jump in and introduce myself. I am 41 and a newlywed and we are TTC. I am really nervous for so many reasons. My age, for one. I just keep hearing horror stories about TTC after 40 and they scare me. I also had a miscarriage at 14 weeks about 15 years ago and then ended up getting divorced so I have not been trying any in the last 15 years. I just assumed kids were not in the picture for me. Then I met my DH and everything changed in an instant. So now we are trying and this is just the first month but it all looks so complicated.

I have been grateful for the advice I have been reading. I never realized you should take prenatals before getting pregnant so I got started on those. If my AF shows up in the next week or so then I will try the charting of temps and see about trying to figure out when I ovulate. I do know if 3 months go by and still no BFP then I will be making an appointment to check things out.

I can't believe I am so nervous and excited at the same time. I'm sure I will have tons of questions, especially about all these acronyms.

  • Welcome and Good Luck!  P.S. For the acronyms--just go to the bottom left side of the screen and check out the Bump Board Glossary.  VERY helpful when trying to learn all the new phrases!  :)

  • Welcome to the group.  I also married late, at age 40.  There are many ladies over 40 on PG after 35 who got pg easily, many here who have not been so lucky.  Hope that you have an easy time TTC and that your stay here is short.

  • Welcome!  A of ladies over 40 (including members of my own family) have no trouble at all.

I would recommend getting some basic testing sooner rather than later- including Day 3 bloodwork (FSH, etc). and the AMH which can be done anytime in the cycle. When I started TTC (which was at age 41), my GYN was doing basic health things (pap, mammogram, TSH, prolactin) and telling me everything was good to go.  Those tests don't give you an accurate picture of ovarian reserve.

The following link was helpful to me: https://www.advancedfertility.com/fertility-after-age-40-ivf.htm. Hopefully you won't need IVF, but this does have good stats.  The entire website has great information.

  • Thanks for the replies. That glossary certainly helps even if I still have to google some terms. I have started researching tons of stuff and my brain is on overload. Thanks for the links.
