When would you find cramps worrisome?

I've been having consistent cramps for about 4 days in addition to lower back ache (not consistent). I know cramping is normal and it is not accompanied by bleeding. I do not remember it being this consistent with DD. I'm not doubled over in pain but it's enough that I'm noticing it and not feeling well. It's like heavy period cramps and like I said, it's been pretty constant for about 4 days. Would you be worried/call? Has anyone else had cramping this much? TIA

Re: When would you find cramps worrisome?

  • The first few weeks I was getting mild period-like cramps throughout the day. But I haven't felt much like that in the last few weeks, maybe a bit here and there. I was bleeding though (due to a perigestational bleed that has since stopped bleeding) and my midwife said that mild period-like cramps are normal, especially if they are located on the sides instead of the middle of your abdomen. She said that very strong period-like cramps are not usually normal and that I should call if I start getting those. It seems reassuring that you aren't bleeding at all, but it never hurts to call your doctor's office if you are really worried, right?

  • I had them the last two weeks (they've stopped since) but they were usually either from gas or having to go to the bathroom. But if you're worried a quick call to your doctor might help to ease your mind :)

  • You might give your Dr a call and just ask. I'm sure it will make you feel better to hear it from them. I just started progesterone pills because I have been experiencing a lot of cramping lately too. Last night, my cramps actually woke me up. I called Dr. today and they thought I hadn't drank enough water that day. They said that if you get dehydrated, you will have more cramping. So, remember to drink your water!

  • I have had cramps like you describe on and off for about 2 1/2 weeks.  I did call my RE about it, and had a u/s last week.  Baby was fine with a strong heartbeat....but they also saw a "vanishing twin".  Cramps have continued.  I have another u/s tomorrow.  It's hard not to worry I know.....it just doesn't feel right, that cramps like this would be normal.  I'm told they can be though.  FX for you.  :)

  • I had constant period cramps with DS for a few weeks. This time nothing. It's pretty normal as long as you're not doubled over and there's no blood.
