Nap time freak out

Lately one of my girls has been flipping out when I put her down for her nap.  They were taking lots of naps during the day but just recently dropped some of the naps and are taking 2 sometimes 3 during the day for about an hour each.  During the last few days Emma has been freaking out when I go to put her down.  She will be good for about 5 minutes once I put her in her crib.  After that 5 minutes she starts to lose it.  She screams and cries and I try to let her cry for a little while and then I go in and rub her back, shush her.  Usually the only thing that calms her down is me picking her up.  I will get her to go to sleep but the second I move her a tiny bit to put her in her crib she wakes right up and starts freaking out again.  Also the whole time she is crying and screaming she is rubbing her eyes with her hands and rubs her face on her mattress.  She didn't used to do this and I can't for the life of me understand why she started doing it.  I hate just letting her cio but I don't know what to do.  Any suggestions??

Re: Nap time freak out

  • She sounds overtired.  How much sleep are they getting at night?  Any reason they dropped some naps?

  • Could be overtired, but one of my girls did this recently nd it seemed to be a "I need Mommy" phase. I just did my best to keep consoling her but putting her down awake until she fell asleep, but it was definitely disconcerting and annoying because she is my good sleeper and has always put herself to sleep. She is, for the most part, back to that pattern, although every now and then if she is too tired she will still freak out. Oh, and I tried to give her plenty of Mommy time during the day too so that I could be confident hat I wasn't abandoning her or anything when was struggling with her crying. Hope it's just a phase for your LO too!!
