Update - Pelvic pain - Advice needed

I don't know what to do!  I'm 6w2d and experiencing pain in my lower right pelvic area.  It's a constant pain, but not severe.  It's only on the right side.  It started around noon today.  Should I wait it out and call the dr in the AM or head to the ER just to be safe?

UPDATE:  After going back and forth on what to do, my husband and I packed a book bag of things to entertain us and headed to the ER.  Really it was for peace of mind.  I was worried that if it was a tubal pregnancy, I would wake up in horrific pain over night and kick myself for not going earlier in the evening.  So after 5 hours in the ER, I am happy to say the pregnancy is where it should be.  They "think" the pain is from a burst cyst.  They did an ultrasound, but wouldn't let me see it :(  But the ER dr said everything looks good and I'm measuring 6w2d, which was exact.  I see my OB/GYN next Thursday and will follow-up about then pain then.  Even though it was 5 hours in hell, I'm happy we went.  I was able so sleep last night.  Thank you all for your responses!

Re: Update - Pelvic pain - Advice needed

  • I am in the EXACT same position as you and actually just got on to write almost the same post you just did. Miine started today at about 1:00pm and is only in the right side. It's a constant ache with intermittent twinges that are a little more painful/uncomfortable. I'm thinking it's normal and probably something stretching or moving but i'm not sure either and may call my doc in the morning just to make sure. Good luck with yours!! Glad to know I'm not alone though

  • I would suggest just laying down, keeping your feet up, and drinking lots of water.  Monitor any changes and note if anything helps it feel better.  Call the doc in the morning.  If you go to the ER, they're likely to send you home with the same instructions, and will maybe do an ultrasound (which would be the upside of going to the ER).  But honestly, if something is wrong, going to the ER isn't going to help.  Sorry.  I hope things settle down for you!

  • I had some of that too.  My sister is a doc so I called her and she said it is quite common.  If you are worried about it though, you should call your OB office triage nurse or your doc to set your mind at ease.
  • Have you had a u/s yet to confirm a uterine pregnancy?  If not, to be honest I would probably either call your Dr now if you can, or head to the ER, just to be safe.  Everything is probably just fine....you might just have a cyst or something, at worst (which is totally normal and OK).  For peace of mind though, and because of the risk of losing a tube, etc if it IS ectopic, I would probably bite the bullet and head over just to be safe. I'm paranoid like that though.  You really are probably fine.  :). Good luck and please update us, whatever you decide to do.

  • Hey ladies,

sounds to me like you are experiencing normal "growing pains" .  Your body is making more room for that growing little bean in your belly! I had them too, I still do from time to time and I am 9 weeks now.

of course, if you are concerned, then call the doc!

  • I wouldn't be too concerned- it is probably round ligament pain which is completely common and normal (though it can be quite uncomfortable and disconcerting until you figure out what it is). Of course, if it will ease your fears you can call your dr/midwife- that is what they are there for and you should never feel silly or worry that you shouldnt call when you are concerned. Chances are since you are early and there isn't much they can do they will tell you to rest, drink lots of water and maybe make an appointment for Mon. if the pain doesnt go away on its own. I had some similar pain only on my left side for probably half the day on Friday but over time it went away and hasnt come back (which makes me think RLP). GL!
