Hi JLC, it's nice to see you with a ticker in your siggy. I use them, and have 3. I kind of feel like that is not enough, so I'd make more than that (that's just how many came in the pack I bought). I think I've seen people say 4-6.

HI!!! Your daughter is beautiful!! Thanks for the well wishes. It is a girl and we are very excited.
I am kind of obsessed with cloth diapers It may be an illness. HA!
I am making 12 and planning on just leaving them in my dryer. My hand is about to fall off but they are expensive to buy and I happen to have yarn left from another project. So broken down each ball will cost me $2.25. (free for now because I already had the yarn but I bought it full price before)
I think I could get it as low as $1.75 if I had used a 40% off coupon for each ball of yarn. I can get 2 dryer balls from each ball of yarn.
Do you use any scent on yours? I am undecided if I want to buy some essential oil.

We have 4 and a leftover Nelly's green ball. I really like that the clothes and diapers don't smell like Bounce or anything artificial when then come out of the dryer.

This might be the way to go since I don't know if baby girl will have any allergies.

I've been using 6 for almost 1.5 years now and it works great! All the clothes come out very soft. What is interesting is that the clothes seem to have less wear and tear on them then before I used the balls.. I'm thinking it is because they dry faster and are not subjected to the heat for a longer period of time.
Everything I have read states to get the full effect/benefit of the balls is to use 4-6 of them.
If the house ain't burned down and the baby's fed it was a successful day.
I repurposed a pair of old wool socks from a thrift store that my grumpy had in his sock drawer. I cut each sock into 6 squares and am currently wrapping 100% wool yarn around the core to form a yarn ball.
Then I am stuffing them into a pair of panty hose and tying them off. Next they will go through 3 very hot washes to felt them. Be sure your wool yarn says good for felting. If it is washable it won't work.
I happen to have had 6 different colors of a good felting yarn laying around from another project that I didn't want to waste.
I know the Michael's near me does a 40% off 1 item every week. So if you bought the yarn 1 ball a week (which makes 2 dryer balls) You could get them for almost half off!

Thank you! Little girls are the best, I'm excited for you. And I, too, am CD obsessed. I got a new one yesterday and can barely wait for it to dry so she can wear it!

I made my own dryer balls and they make me laugh whenever I see them. I got overly ambitious a few years ago with felting and I have a TON of wool roving left over from my projects. So I made 10 balls, and I think they are supposed to be the size of a "tennis ball" but mine look more like golf balls. I went to a local store here and bought some Lemon verbena essential oils and I oil a few of the balls every week and my clothes are so smelly clean and my towels are so soft! The only problem I find with them is when you empty your laundry they go everywhere and you usually always find one up a shirt or a pant leg. I've also found a few of them in my dogs toy bin....I also don't really know if they cut the drying time of my clothes...or if I even made them correctly. I may just buy a few of the commercially made ones just so I can tell if I need to bulk mine up a bit!!
