How many naps does your LO take?

DD used to take 2 short morning naps and then a long afternoon nap.  Then we dropped one of the morning naps, so recently she has been taking a short morning nap and not so long anymore afternoon nap.  Now we struggle to get her to take the afternoon nap.  Therefore, she is usually a monster in the evenings.  I try to push her bedtime to 7:30 or 8 so that I have time with her once I get home from work around 6.  Any tricks for the afternoon nap?  TIA!

Re: How many naps does your LO take?

  • No help here- we're all over the place.  Somedays it's 2 shorter naps and somedays it's 1 longer- although the we're leaning more toward the 1 longer one most days.  If she takes that nap too early, though, evenings are either a nightmare, or she ends up taking a late nap and being up half the night.  M's bedtime is also wildly varied- I try for 9pm these days but sometimes she fights it until well after 10 or 11pm, which of course then sets us up for a later wake up time and later naps.

  • She just takes 1 nap per day now and it doesn't start until around 1 or 1:30 pm. It lasts anywhere from 1.5-3 hours.

There was awhile there when DD was taking a long morning nap and then no afternoon nap. She would fall to pieces on me around 4-5 pm, though. So I start pushing her morning nap later and later until I got her used to taking it right after lunch. She does a whole lot better now!

  • DD takes a 1.5 - 2 hr morning nap (9:30) then another 1-1.75 hr afternoon nap around 2-3.  if we have to miss morning nap, then she will take a 3 hr nap around 12. she goes to bed around 730 and sleeps 12 straight.     have u tried oy doing one long nap? like late morning going into early afternoon? maybe ur DD is ready to transition to that? its hard i think bc as toddlers they are so caught up in exploring and some dont eat as much and they are gettig molars that it messes with their sleep and routine.

  • We've been off lately.  DD can stay awake longer but we're in between 1 and 2 naps.  Most days I can get her to go down around 9:30 and she'll sleep for 90 minutes then will go down around 2 or 2:30 for another 90 minutes.  Today she wouldn't nap so I put her down at 12:15 and she still only napped for 90 minutes and got up at 1:45 so she was miserable by bedtime.  I wish we could find a happy medium.
  • It depends. Sometimes she will only take a 45min nap (right before lunch), which will require an additional nap around 4-5pm or she will be spent. If she sleeps for 2 or more hours in the morning, she is fine for the rest of the day. Anything less and she needs 2 naps.

  • Just one and it's been this way a couple of weeks before she turned 1, unless on odd days she gets up early and she needs 2 naps so she's not a disaster at bedtime.

Your LO sounds like how Liv was when she was transitioning to just one nap a day.  What we did was to push back her morning nap and get it closer to 11-noon and then bedtime by 6:30, sometimes 6.

I am SAHM though early bedtime is okay for us.
