1st Trimester

Food - in the middle of the night

I am just about 11 weeks pregnant and find (as I'm sure most of you do) that I'm up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. When I'm up I try and eat something in hopes I'll not feel so gross when I wake up. It seems to have helped and I can definitely get out of bed now without having to eat first. Just wondering if anyone else does this and you have any favorite middle of the night foods. Or, to go along with that if you have any favorite pregnancy foods in general. I am having a hard time because I feel like I can only eat about a dozen things and having to eat every couple of hours I'm getting really tired of them. I pretty much can only eat things that don't involve cooking - other than pasta - as the smell of cooking anything is too overwhelming and makes me feel like I'm going to be sick.

So - favorite foods? Things that help with nausea?

  • I'd eat Chex cereal, crackers, or animal cookies. I kept them in a drawer by my bed.

  • When I get up in the middle of the night I per, then snack on blueberries, raspberries, or string cheese.  Water is always at my bedside.

  • Crackers have helped my uneasy stomach.

  • With my first pregnancy I would get up in the middle of the night and eat cereal. My husband was working night shifts so I would spend a lot of nights eating cereal and watching bad TV. Lately i'm more hungry before bed and have some crackers or string cheese or almonds.

  • In the middle of the night I go for cereal or crackers.  I also try to have cut up fruit in the fridge so that is an easy thing to go for in the middle of the night too or whenever a hunger attack strikes.

  • My first pregnancy I fell into this routine!

  • I am also 11 weeks, and this is weird but salsa has been my snack of choice.  You would think it would give me awful heartburn, but I always feel so good after eating it. Colby jack cheese also is something I keep sliced in the fridge and eat in the middle of the night.  Jolly ranchers and cheez-its really help with my nausea (not at the same time!)  Hope you start feeling better.  I'm not sick every day now, but about every other day it comes back with a vengeance.  Keep looking toward that second trimester light at the end of the tunnel!
  • Oh, and smells!  Can I just say I work at a wildlife rehabilitation center, and the smells are pure torture!  Things that never made me bat an eyelash have me running for the bathroom.   UGH!
