March 2013 Moms

What I miss most...

My morning cup of coffee.  Tried decaf, but it doesn't taste as good to me, so now just drinking water and the occasional tea or cocoa.

Sushi.  Pretty much my favorite dinner, and used to eat it at least once a week.  Sadness.

Feta, Goat and Blue Cheese!  I used to get a salad almost everyday for lunch, and these cheeses frequented them.  Now my salads lack the zing, and I find myself actually not interested in salad at all.  My first aversion you might say: raw veggies or salad with no cheese.

  • I miss booze. SO MUCH.  Sad but true.

Also, you can eat all those cheeses.  Almost all cheese in the US is pastuerized.

Red Bull.  I didn't drink it a ton but knowing I cannot drink it makes me want it more.

Brie cheese.  I almost ordered a sandwich with brie on it when I went out to lunch earlier this week.  I had forgotten it was out.

Pulled pork sandwiches.  I made these a few weeks ago.  The smell got to me as soon as it started cooking.  DH had a lot of sandwiches that week.

  • I still eat feta. Doc said it was ok as long as it was pastuerized. I think its illegal for it not to be in the USA? Just to be safe I asked when I was at a resturante and it was pastuerized and when you buy it at the store just makes sure it says it on the ingredients.. Its fine.

    Its a surprise! Team green!

  • All of those cheeses are fine as long as they are made with pasteurized milk.  It wouldn't be legal for anyone to sell you a salad with unpasteurized cheeses in it unless it was clearly marked "raw".  And usually you can only find unpasteurized cheeses at farmer's markets and specialty stores.

  • I miss my couple cups of tea everyday the most.  I also really miss sushi and sandwiches!

I also miss my energy and being able to run.  I stopped running once I found out I am pregnant.  I still walk and workout to my prenatal videos but it is not the same.

I miss my clothes fitting like they are supposed to.

  • I miss all those things you mentioned.  I also miss having to scale down in my workouts.  As a fitness instructor with intense-crazy energy, this is a big blow to me.  My participants instantly noticed a difference.  I also miss going to happy hour with all my friends.  Drinking water and faking it did not work for me.  I wear my heart on my sleeve, and people questioned me.  I am keeping a low profile until I want to announce my pregnancy.  My birthday is the start of the second trimester, so I am looking forward to announce it then.

Me too.  I just want to eat and feel good afterward and not have to decide if it's going to make the nausea worse.  And I HATE naps, but I'll be darned if I can actually get through a day without at least laying around for a while.  And sex.  I miss it.  But I'm too nauseous.  Drive is still there, but my tummy does not agree.

  • Ditto to the red bull.  That used to really get me through a tough day.

Nice glass of wine or a ice cold beer on the boat.  I'm hanging in there with my Mocktails and na beer though :)

And what about honey? I didn't know we couldn't have t.  What's wrong with it?

  • Coffee......coffee......mmmmm, coffee. My shipment of swiss water process organic kcups are on their way, and can't get here soon enough!

Being able to drink/not being afraid of being around others who will know I'm pg when they see I'm not drinking.

Sushi, having as much seafood as I want without caring, and being able to have lunchmeat without microwaving it (my fave weird food is a pickle spear wrapped in cream cheese and turkey, which I can guarantee I will be craving in the months to come)!

  • I cut out beer a few months ago to help with my migraines (perfect timing, huh?), so I've already been through missing my beer stage. At this point, the thing I miss most is sushi. Every single day I think about how great some un-cooked sushi would taste... *sigh*. And energy, I feel like I can't get enough sleep. As well, I also miss sex. I would love to, but I feel so much worse in the evenings when DH and I actually have time to spend together, and I feel like that would just send me over the edge... would not be pretty. :-X

  • Wine for sure! And of course my friends want to start a book/wine club this fall...

Ibuprofen!! I'm practically counting the days until I can take it again. I have chronic headaches and neck/back problems and live off ibuprofen or aleve.

  • The amount of misinformation in this thread is kind of scary.

As PP said, cheeses are fine as long as they're pasteurized.  What's wrong with honey?  That's only not allowed for infants under 1.  Coffee is fine, too, in small amounts.  There's no reason you should have to give up 1 cup in the morning.  And even sushi is fine if you know it's from a reputable place.

I miss having energy and enjoying summer drinks.  I went out after my show opened last night and had to drink water.  I miss having a social beer!

  • Eating. I am so constantly nauseous that I am only able to eat a little bit here and there, and that is only because I force myself. I will be really glad when this part is over.

  • I miss my raw sushi, and I hate microwaving my lunch meats to the point that I just don't do it anymore.  Not that it matters much, I'm so nauseous that I have a hard time eating without throwing it back up.  I'm hoping it doesn't last as long as it did with my DS.  I had MS well into my 16th week.

  • I'm in Paris and, in France, there's a risk of toxoplasmosis in most salad greens SO I can't eat salads when I go out to restaurants.  Not being able to eat salads and unpasteurized cheese in Paris is killing me!

  • I still have all those things. I limit myself to one caffinated beverage a day, only eat sushi with cooked fish in it, and all those cheese are pasteurized in the US.

What do I miss? Not having to judge whether or not something is going to make me nauseated... Ranch dressing is at the top of my food aversion list, too. (And I eat a salad for lunch almost everyday...)

I also miss drinking wine on my deck at the end of a long day...

  • Wow, yeah, so nice to see so many in the same boat. I miss my wine. And my unending drive to get things done. I have actually SAT and watched TV because I have so very little energy. Also, I miss my detail management skills. I keep forgetting things. LOTS of them.
