With DS, I was 33 and got pregnant after 4 cycles. With DD, I was just shy of turning 35 and got pregnant in 1 cycle. I feel really blessed. Not all of my friends have had as much luck as us.
Took about 4 months for #1 when I was 29...I'm 37 now, will be 38 by the due date, and we were not-trying-but-not-preventing for 2 months this time. For me, there's no way I could have coped with another baby before now, but like others have said, we're all anecdotal - only you and your doctor can figure out what's going on with your fertility, and whether you really want another one now.
That said, I was by far the youngest in my mom's group w/#1 - most were in their late 30s/early 40s, but quite a few needed help at that point.
Echoing what many have said, everyone is going to be different. I had many friends that had a hard time conceiving anywhere from 30-38 years old, and all told me not to wait any longer so it wouldn't be stressful. Well, I am 34 going to be 35 this fall, and my hubby and I have been talking about a baby for over a year. We hadn't officially started trying yet, but weren't being as careful as we used to be in the last 2 months... so we have a special little surprise coming this March anyway! So, my fears that I wasn't fertile or would have a hard time conceiving have been trumped by a big "that was easy" button. Dont' stress out about it. Start trying when you know you are ready (or close to it, haha). The best thing is that there are wonderful docors and technologies to help you when and if you hit any obstacles. Oh, and I highly recommend the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility." Best of luck!
Yeah...you never know how.long it will take...everyone is different. I had my dd when i was 33 and it took 2+ years to conceieve her. I temped, charted, checked cm/cp, went to a specialist, took clomid.for 6 cycles and finally.got my first ever bfp. It took me another two years to conceive ds (although there was a m/c after a year....so one year per baby ttc before bfp...and again i took clomid for a few cycles before he was conceieved during a break.cycle. THIS time, given my history and advancing age (i am 39 now and my cycles.were getting wonky...either due to postpartum or age...who knows..?) I decided to half heartedly ttc by kind.of.attempting to.time.things right (no charting or anything else.....just wild guessing more or less) and i got my bfp my very first month! It blew me away after all those years of seemingly endless bfns.

My IVF Journey
We started TTC early, because we figured it would probably take a while (I'm 35, DH is 45). Wrong! We got pregnant the first time we tried. So don't assume just because you're older you will have problems.
Don't start TTC until you are sure you're ready. I doubt another 6 months will make a big difference.
