As a kid, by your parents -- ?? When I was like 7 I took $20 from my mom's jewelry box and, in addition to pounding the crap out of me, my dad wrote "THIEF" on my forehead with a Sharpie marker. I had to go to church the next day like that. It was horrible. I still think that was a little extreme, seeing how Sharpie doesn't wash off. My mom was madder at him than she was at me!
Re: What's the worst punishment you were ever given?
Uh...my mom literally beating the hell out of me. Like - not in a normal discipline way.
I was 11, mom and stepdad had just come home from a two week vacation, which corresponded with all the other parents of my brothers' friends who lived in our neighborhood ALSO going out of town (STUPID). My brothers, who were 18 and 16 at the time, had a HUGE party. I had a sip of a fuzzy navel, felt guilty about it, and fessed up to my mother when she got home.
Beating ensued.
Holy cow!! Can you imagine trying to get away with the Sharpie marker punishment these days?? I have to say, that's great...but not something I'd have the guts to do!
My punishments were always grounding - nothing insane. Though my dad did once dump a cooler full of ice on my brother's bed because he had told him to clean it up and get it out of the living room a bunch of times. I thought that was pretty cool - like you, my mom was p!ssed at my dad for doing it, though.
YIKES That's harsh!!
When I was 8 and my brother was 9 we were grounded for a whole summer, we were not allowed to leave the yard without parents present. That meant no going to friends houses, no going to stay with the grand parents, ?just playing in the yard. ?It sucked cause I got a new bike that year and I was only allowed to drive it up and down the driveway. ? Good thing we lived in the country though because our yard was 3 acres so we had some space to play.
What earned this punishment? ?We had decided to go for a walk in a farmers field in the spring. ?We knew we weren't allowed we just didn't know why. ?It turns out the field was ?a drainage ditch and I fell through the ice. it was only up to my waste but I was being pulled under the ice, ?my brother pulled me out. ?We didn't think it was a big deal. ?My mom however hit the roof (and rightly so now that I think about it) we spent a week grounded to our rooms only allowed out for meals and to do dishes. When that was over she had decided that wasn't enough (she was still freaked out cause I could have died) ?and decided to ground us from the last day of school to the first day of school.?
I saw SC's post over in 3rd Tri about that kid who had to hold the sign. My mom used to do that. She would hang something around mine and my sister's neck, and if she had to go somewhere we had to wear it. It still makes me mad thinking about it, only because my sis and I were good kids and my mom always made a big deal out of small stuff and punished pretty severe. It wasn't for stealing or anything, more like lying maybe or talking back to her.
Writing sentences was another thing. The first time I had to write sentences she ended up making me write 88 sentences. It was a two sentences, so it was alot for me at a young age. That was one of many sucky punishments.
(these are the "light ones" to mention)
My dad worked with abused kids when I was growing up so we never got spanked (not that I think spanking is abuse). My parents therefore had to be more creative!
Until I was about 12, they would take the book I was reading and put it on top of the fridge. I love books so much, that I would have rather been spanked. My sis had to give up her favorite toy cause she could have cared less about reading.
After that, they would wait until we got our next invite to a sleepover or something and would not let us go.
Once we got cars and were able to drive, the punishment was taking our keys away for a week.
I love these...looking back I really was a good kid and wasn't punished very often. The only time I was spanked my mom cried waaay longer than I did and never spanked us again.
The worst I can remember was my brother and I talking while my mom was on the phone, so we had to draw straws and the short straw meant you had to go sit in the downstairs bathroom for 5 minutes, the long straw meant the upstairs bathroom. I had to sit downstairs for 5 minutes and it was soooo scary. I swear it was haunted...
We had to write sentences too - it always took forever!
