If you used a toddler bed, when did you move to bigger bed?

My girls have been in their toddler beds since they were about 2 with no problems.  They still have some room in their beds also.  However, I'm wondering if I should think about moving them to twin beds in the near future.

On a related note, do you have any recommendations for twin beds that can be used individually or bunked (preferably white)?  We're not to the bunking stage yet, but I'd like that option eventually.  Thanks!

  • DD was in her converted crib (so basically a toddler bed) at age 2 years and 7 months, and was in a full bed by age 2 years 9 months. The toddler bed stage to me seems kind of silly - she liked her full bed much better.

  • We never did a toddler bed with DD1. She went straight to a twin mattress on the floor, and then we eventually added the bed frame.

  • My girls were in toddler beds since they were converted from their IKEA cribs. We used them as long as possible (because we had already paid for them) and also because we were going to completely redo their bedroom once we put them in twin beds and we were not ready for the remodel until just this past spring. They were 3 years and 9 months old when we moved them to twin beds. We were also not ready for bunks because they are too young so we did 2 twins but we moved them into a bigger room so everything fits fine with space. I know you may not have that option. I got our new beds, dressers, nightstands and headboards at www.simplykidsfurniture.com. I was very pleased with the sets and the price was very reasonable if you compare it to furniture stores like RoomsToGo Kids. My DH had to put it all together, but he did all the remodel work on the room and is very good at assembly furniture. I believe they have some systems that are twins that can be put into bunks. The only other place I know of that sells that is Pottery Barn Kids, but they are way too expensive for us.

  • DS is still in the toddler bed of his 3-in-1 crib.  We've had many conversations with him about moving to the big boy bed. He's not having it.  I'm not in a rush to do it, so it'll wait until he's ready.

  • DS and DD both had beds that converted to a toddler bed so we used it. DS had his toddler bed from 2y1m to 4years. We redid his room and got a full size bed when he turned 4.

We converted DD's crib to a toddler bed at 19 months and she got a full size bed a couple months before she turned 3.  She has always been a great sleeper and started getting up multiple times a night and complaining about her bed. When we got her a full size bed she started sleeping great again. I think she was uncomfortable in the toddler bed.

This for us too.  She was more like 2.5.  Never a single problem and still, at 4 years old, she calls us when she is awake to come and get her.  She's never :::knock on wood::: come out of her room.

  • My girls share a room, so space is tight. I like the toddler beds for now because they take up less space and we wouldn't have room for 2 twin beds. So, I'm waiting until DD #1 is old enough to sleep on the top of a bunk bed. I'm hoping we can do this next spring after she's 4. Right now I like the solid wood bunk beds at Just Cabinets and they can be separated to 2 twin beds also.

  • We have a 3 in 1 convertible crib, so once DS was in the converted toddler bed, we then swtiched him out to a youth bed a couple months before his 4th birthday--- because he was getting too tall for the convertible toddler bed.

  • DD1 is still in her toddler bed at 5 years old. We don't have space for a twin and a crib in the same room, so it'll have to do for awhile. I plan to get a bunk for them next year.

  • my boys are a year older than your girls, and we're probably moving them to twin beds sometime in the next few months. they still have room, but it's getting a little tight. :)

since we don't have room for the footprint of two twin beds (much less three), we're going to have someone build triple bunks. so can't help with recommendations. :)
