I was looking at the prenatal education classes the hospital I'm delivering at offers and I saw 5 that I'm interested in attending (one of them includes the hospital tour).
What classes will you be taking?

Right now... we are only planning on taking the required water birth class. I plan to talk to my midwife next week to see if there are others she reccommends. I took a few the last time I was pregnant and they were kind of a waste.....
- Caring for Baby (hes never been around babies...lol they scare him..hes in love with our nephew though but doesnt know a thing about how to care for them)
- Infant & Child CPR
---
By Myself
- Breastfeeding

They all seem to cost a decent amount of money so thats what we are sticking with
That sucks that they cost so much. I was surprised that my hospital offers them for free. I plan on taking breastfeeding class too as well as prepared childbirth since I'm a FTM.

Do you plan on delivering at a midwife center? Just wondering since the hospital I'm delivering at has a midwife center w/ water birth as an option which I thought was really neat. But since I know I will probably go the epidural route I've opted to just deliver in the regular part of the hospital.

I will hopefully be in the hospitals birth center. I was supposed to be last time, but they only had 1 at that time and someone was already in there. I think it would be SO nice to not have to switch rooms after delivery... and the bed is HUGE.... which would be so nice. Although hopefully I will only be there for a limited amount of time anyway. I will have a midwife delivery my baby though.....
I'm taking breast feeding and the one day crash course on child birth. I took the 5 week labor course and the child care course during my first pregnancy. I signed up for breast feeding too, but it was canceled and the makeup class was held after I had DS, and by that point I had already been to a lactation consultant.
Oh.... we have also talked about doing a BFing class.... its been 5 years since I have done this so it wuold be a good refresher for me and it would be a good intro for DH so he knows how to best support me.
Last time we took the child birth class together and I took a few BF'ing classes. The BF'ing classes were great, the child birth class was a waster IMO.
This time I think we are going to do a Big Sister/Big Brother class for DD. It introduces them to the baby...

I'll take the tour, and my OB/Midwife office has a childbirth class I'll definitely take with DH (taught by the Midwives, and I plan to be delivered by one of them, so great opportunity to get to know them better). I'd also like to find a BF class and take DH with me; I keep reading other moms talking about how valuable that class is for yourself and DH.

Thank you so much for starting this thread. I just looked and the hospital we're delivering at has childbirth classes that are full through early November. Luckily, the session we would want (they recommend scheduling for weeks 34-37) is still open!
The big hospital system in our area offers a whole range of classes.
Last time we took what they call their labor and birth class. It went over the expected process, possible interventions, etc. and did a little bit with teaching support persons how to help, but it was pretty worthless. Honestly, I had already been at a few births so it was more for MH's benefit, but it cost $85 and I really wish we hadn't done it.
This time I'm planning to take a Hypnobabies course. My hospital actually offers a Hypnobirthing course so I'm trying to decide between taking the hospital class or a Hypnobabies course taught by a private party.
I took a hospital tour last time and I will be at the same hospital this time so I won't do it again.
With my first I took a breastfeeding class, a preparing for birth class, and a caring for your newborn class. I would definitely not take the preparing for birth class again, it wasn't very helpful. The breastfeeding class was okay, although most of the information given I had already read. The caring for your newborn class was about the same.
Dh and I are already signed up for a (I think) 6 week class that covers labor and newborn basics and includes a hospital tour-that was $75 I believe. I'm also going to sign up for a breast feeding class which is only 1 day and there's one called pups and babies that I think we'll sign up for.
Is there a reason your DH won't be going to the class as well? I'm not at all telling you what to do, but it's good for dad to have info about breastfeeding as well. Sometimes you might need their support in the first few weeks and it's great if they have working knowledge of BF'ing. Just a thought if you were thinking it wouldn't be info your H will need.
Yes! My hospital offers a 6-week prenatal birthing series that DH and I will both take and I signed up for an infant/child CPR class and a breastfeeding class. DH may go with me to the CPR class, I haven't really asked him yet.

For DD, we took the CPR course (I highly recommend this class). And we also took the birthing and BF-ing class. The only class that turned out to be worth it was the CPR class, not that we've had to use it, but I did all the practice crap for the birthing class and ended with a C-section and BF-ing didn't work out for me with DD.
Talkativ15 - Make sure when you're signing up for the BF class the price is single versus couples. My BF class was for couples, it helped the guy to understand what was going on and to be support for the woman. It was only couples in the class, except the one girl her husband had to work and she brought her mom. But it was nice to have a support person there with you to help understand.
OP, where did you get the doggie shirt? That's how I want to announce on FB. I have a min pin chihuahua mix that looks like a big version of your fur baby!
I'll do the tour of the birth center and anything specific my midwives recommend (since I didn't use these midwives or the birth center for my son). But between the Bradley classes and the all day required class by our hospital last time, I think we are just going to go over some of our old Bradley materials and skip out on most of the birthing stuff this time around.

I just called and I'm taking a breastfeeding class (which is free!), newborn care class, and a childbirth class- 4 weeks. This is all going to cost $70 which seems really cheap to me. Plus I also signed up for a tour.

I asked her the same question on a different thread, haha. I have a chihuahua too and i want that friggun shirt!
Im planning on taking all the classes they offer that fit the information I'm looking for. Ive heard from multiple people that the birthing center is nothing that special to tour, so DH and I are debating whether it's worth it.
DH and I have already toured the birth center (we did that right away to make sure we were comfortable going there). Since we are at a birth center, we are required to take some form of birthing class, though it doesn't have to be the one offered by them. I'm currently torn between Bradley and Hypnobabies. They also offer a breastfeeding class which I'm sure I'll be interested in as I get closer.

The hospital birthing center tour is scheduled for September. I'm excited to see it since a friend's SIL just delivered there and said that she had a great experience.
DH and I will definitely be attending the BF class ($30) and also the newborn class ($45). I'm still kicking around the idea of the Lamaze class, but it is a three session $80 class so I'm not sure that we'll do that one.
We will not take any classes this time around. #3 here and our oldest is just 4. But we did take a "birthing" class the first time. It was 6wks and I think $75...it was taught by a nurse who worked in the local midwife's office. I didn't see the midwife but the class was open to anyone. We deliver and a small hospital so they don't offer any classes. The class was ok. Nothing much I wasn't really aware of. But it included lots of different aspects...a State Trooper came in and talked about carseat safety, we toured the hospital, labor and delivery, breastfeeding etc.

Re: Do you plan on taking classes offered by the hospital?
So weird, I read your post title as "clothes" not "classes". Lol, so I had to open up your thread to see what you were talking about. :P
Anyways, no. My hospital doesn't offer classes.
