I have been looking at posts in the 3rd Trimester room and people are talking about having their babies in their bedroom when they first come home. Is this a new thing that I haven't heard of yet? Are you doing this? Why?

Re: Where will your baby sleep when it first gets home?
In her crib, in her room, which is down the hall from us.
Yep, I'm a cold and heartless parent. DS lasted in our room for a week, no one was getting any sleep and I decided bassinets are a bunch of bull.

We have a co-sleeper (like a small pack n play that goes right up to the bed).
I plan on keeping the baby there since I hope to breastfeed. I figure it will be easier on me, and for some reason the risk of SIDS goes down when the baby is in the same room.
I have the nursury crib ready too, and figure baby can sleep there once I return to work. Me and baby may move into the guest bedroom for a while if DH cannot sleep. He has a very physical job that I want him to be well rested for (could be life threatening if he made a mistake at work). Since I'll be off work, I'll take the brunt of sleepless nights.

RNP beside our bed, or a PNP if she doesn't like the RNP.
We kept DS in our room for ~3 months and DD in our room for ~4. I just prefer to have them nearby for ease of night feedings. And just because I enjoy having them in our room at first!

LOL. I should add, OP, that while a lot of people like the baby close for nighttime feedings, DS never nursed well if I was lying down, so if I had to sit up anyway, I might as well have been in his room, in the glider.
Baby will be in our room, in a bassinet. With my boys, until they stop waking through the night for feedings, I kept them in our room, either co-sleeping or in the pack n play. I am a big fan of nursing while lying down, so hopefully this LO is too!! It was the only way we all got sleep in our house!
this. Its right across our room.

In a PNP in our room. DS slept in our room until I went back to work at 10 weeks.
It's just so much easier to nurse in the middle of the night, and in the very beginning I could not imagine having him out of my sight.
Also, ditto others that babies who sleep near their parents supposedly have a lower SIDs risk.
In her own room in her crib.
We're keeping our PnP downstairs so I'm not going to bring a 3rd sleeping aparatus into our bedroom, stock it with diapers and diaper changing supplies, etc. when I can walk the 20 feet into her room to feed/change her in the middle of the night.

Baby will be in our room in a pack and play for a few reasons:
1. it's easier because I'll be nursing her every few hours and this way I don't have to get out of bed
2. her crying would likely wake DD if she was sleeping in her crib (they will be sharing a room)
3. National SIDS foundation recommends baby spending 6 months in its parents' room to reduce the risk of SIDS
