Salt dough hand/foot prints

Another bumpie posted a link to a recipe for this.  I didn't bookmark it, but found a similar recipe here:

 https://www.theimaginationtree.com/2010/10/salt-dough-handprints.html

I tried it this morning and have a couple tips if you're interested in trying it too..

The dough gets a bit sticky the more you work with it, add more flour if your rolling pin starts sticking to it.

Roll directly on to parchment paper that is cut to fit on your baking sheet, moving the dough at all is impossible to do without marring it once it's been rolled out.

Roll the dough to slightly more than a1/4 inch, otherwise it'll be too thin when you make the print.

I used a teacup like a cookie cutter to get perfect circles just big enough for lo's hands and feet.

Cut out more discs than you need so you can chose the best prints or in case you flub one or two.

I found that one recipe made about 4 teacup sized discs and two smaller ones that I'll use as labels. I got two hand and foot prints, I'm going to write Hank's name and age on the labels and then mount one of each into shadow box for us and for my parents.

They're in the oven now, but I'll try to post a pic once it's done.

  • Thanks for the tip! I pinned the site when it was posted and am probably going to do it this week. I got a kit at a baby shower with DS1 and it did not work out at, and it was a little expensive. I wish I'd have had this when the boys were babies, that way if it messes up, I can just make another one.

If you mess up, you can just reroll this dough!

I actually just did this the other day. I didn't even bother with cutting it out, I shaped it into little hearts and just did footprints. 3...1 for us and each set of grandparents. My parents were here this weekend and my mom was so excited. I wrote the date on the back

Yep this! Evan curled his toes in a couple of times, so I had to reroll it. Also, if you want to hang it, just use a straw to create a hole at the top after you roll it out.

  • If you have older LOs, you can do this to make Christmas ornaments.  Makes cute, cheap gifts.  When we made them, I used a recipe with cinnamin.  Smells festive.  After cooking, we paunted them amd sprinkled glitter on the wet paint.  Just use a straw to puch out a hole at top before baking.  After the paint dried, we put ribbon through th hole and attached a label that said Merry Christmas 2010, From: Gavin.
