~~DE/DS/GC check in~~

I am so sorry I am so late with the check-in this week.  I've had an insane week with little computer time.

This group is open to anyone who has already gone through donor egg/donor embryo/gestational carrier, is in the process of it, or plans on doing it in the future.

This check-in posted each Tuesday.  If you?d like to be added to this group, please reply to this message, and I?ll make sure to add you for next week.  Welcome to the lurkers!  We know this can be a difficult journey, but we welcome you with open arms.  Let us know if we can answer any questions.

GRADUATES ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO POST!

FACEBOOK GROUP: Yellow_Daisy has restarted a PRIVATE Facebook group (meaning no one can see it in your feed, that you are a member, etc.) for the ladies from IF and SAIF who are using/have used donor eggs/embryos or donor sperm.  If you would like to join, please page Yellow_Daisy and ask for an invite to the group.  This might be a nice way to keep in touch in a more private setting and address issues that may arise down the road.

***** If you are a donor or interested in donating, we would be happy to answer questions.  Please start a new post with ?Question for DE ladies? as the title. *****

Would you please add me to the DE group?

Status Update: Where are you currently with the DE/DEmbryo/GC process?

We just returned from Czech Republic where we have chosen a wonderful clinic. We have a tentative transfer date of Oct 6!  We are nervous and excited.

QOTW: How did you decide on the clinic you used for DE, what made you willing to travel or decide not to travel   We live in Switzerland where DE is not allowed. The closest country that does DE IVF is Czech Rep. We just drove there and had consults at a few clinics. We loved the feeling of this clinic, the technology available, and the success rates. We feel very good that this clinic is the right choice for us...we hope we are right!

  • Status: Having difficult discussions with DH on what's next for usSad. My panels came back not so bad (full results next week), DH's results not so good. He is having a really, really hard time thinking about the possibility of him not having a genetic connection. Meanwhile, I just want to move forward int he most financially responsible way we can.

QOTW: Success rates were the main concern for me, pricing was a concern to us both, and DH wanted to be within reasonable driving distance (ended up a 3-4 hour drive one way). I don't regret our choice, even though it didn't work, and would like to continue to work with them.

  • Update: at 34w1d, last week, baby girl was estates to be 6 lbs 15 oz (95th percentile). Yikes. So far my OB is ok with attempting vaginal birth, bu we'll know more at my 38-week u/s. Here's hoping she slows down a little!

QOTW: we wanted a shared-risk guarantee program, there isn't a local one, and the clinic we used is also basically in my hometown so I could stay at my mother's house. I also liked the idea of going out of state for DE, reducing chances that I would ever somehow encounter the donor or anyone else that had used her, but that wasn't our main reasoning. Honestly I really didn't mind the traveling and only had to go twice. I imagine it would have gotten old fast if it hadn't worked on the first try, however.

    me - 41 (dx: DOR); DH - 53 (no problems); 7/18/09 - married!; 8/4/09 - BFP on first (real)try; 9/14/09 - missed m/c; 9/15/09 - d&c; 11/09 - 3/10 - 4 natural cycles = BFN; 4/10 - dx hyperthyroidism caused by Graves' disease; 6/10 - thyroidectomy; 7/10 - 12/10 - 1 natural and 5 medicated IUI cycles = BFN; 1/11 - new RE; dx low ovarian reserve (AMH .42; 1/26/11 -- BFP (ectopic) from IUI #6; methotrexate 2/10/11; 6/2/11 - IVF #1 = BFN; 9/12/11 - prescreening for DE; 9/15/11 - IUI #7 (unmedicated)= BFN; 11/8 - begin DE cycle (shared risk program); 12/5 - ER (5 eggs/4 mature/3 fertilized/2 left by day 5) 12/10 - ET of one 1BB blast (expanded, "fair" quality), none to freeze; 12/22 - totally shocked by +hpt; beta #1 = 413; #2 = 3952 2/14 - CVS reveals a healthy baby girl! EDD: 8/27/12 DD born 8/31/12, 10 lbs 10 oz and perfect in every way.
  • Update: We had an u/s earlier in the week, which revealed twins with beautiful heartbeats. I pray they keep on beating!

QOTW: I chose SDFC because of their stats and I really wanted an inhouse pool. Their pool fit us well and had plenty of girls that fit our liking. I didn't mind having to travel and it was a nice vacation admist all the stress of cycling.

  • Welcome recent graduates!  And big hugs to May2806.  I'm so sorry to hear about your loss.

QOTW: How did you decide on the clinic you used for DE, what made you willing to travel or decide not to travel ?  We stayed with our RE for our DE cycle.  We had done several IUIs and several failed attempts at IVF using my own eggs and that's when he suggested using an egg donor.  We had done shared risk for our IVF cycle and so he was kind enough to make our shared risk contract into a donor egg cycle.  We did have to use a 3rd party agency to find our donor, as our RE didn't have his own donor pool.  We chose that particular agency because our RE had worked with that agency before and they came recommended.  I also like that all of the staff there had some personal experience with DE/GC.  And a lot of communication could be done via email and telephone.

Status update: DS is 6 months old!  Not sure where the time has gone.  Def. bittersweet.  He was diagnosed with milk and soy protein allergies at 4 months and has been very slow to gain weight.  He is now on the growth chart at the 3rd percentile for height and weight.  DH has been talking a lot lately about doing a FET early next year to try for #2.  I am not sure I'll be ready.  I was on bedrest for 14 weeks with DS and delivered him early at 35 weeks.  I'd like to get my body back in shape and just enjoy the time with DS before possibly adding another child to our family.

Status:  Baby L is doing fine; NT scan and b/w results all came back normal.  Now if I would just stop having m/s, I'd be great :)

QOTW: How did you decide on the clinic you used for DE, what made you willing to travel or decide not to travel ?

RBA is right here in Atlanta, which meant that we wouldn't have any travel costs, and wouldn't have to take vacation time.  And they had an in-house frozen donor program with a large pool (and are extremely experienced with it), so there were no downsides.  The costs were reasonable as well for in-US, and they have the guarantee of 2 quality embryos.  So the choice was pretty easy for us.

  • May I please be added to this group? DH and I are meeting with our RE on 8/10, where we will be discussing the donor embryo program they have at the practice. I'm still in the research phase of this part of our journey, so I really don't have much else to add.

History on me - been seeing an RE off and on since 2007, I've got high FSH (my endocrinologist suspects this is a result from untreated hyperthyroidism for a year before it was finally treated), uterine fibroids removed in 2008 (size of a lime, a tennis ball and a baseball lodged at the base of my spine), and premature ovarian failure. I guess you could add mild endo on my left ovary too. That's the scoop - DH is all good (darn him!)

Thanks, and good luck to all!

SAIF/PAIF absolutely ALWAYS welcome to respond!
  • Update:  I'm still hanging out on BCPs, but I get to start Lupron on Saturday.  I think I will finally feel like we are moving at that point.

QOTW:  We picked our clinic based mainly on the fact that they took my insurance and they have several locations, one of which is directly across from our house.  It turns out that they have good success rates too, but we definitely would have considered traveling to a clinic further way if it meant a better chance for us.
