Anybody else's kid unable to maintain an inside voice?

OMG.  My child is so loud!  I spent the day with her today and I'm pretty sure I'm half deaf.

Shhh does not work.  I can get her to whisper for like two seconds but then she's back to yelling.  She's 22 months old.

Hallllllp.  Or at least tell me I'm not alone.

  • I'd pretend I couldn't hear what was being said. Just keep working at it. I think most children go through this phase.

DS is 6 and talks very loudly most of the time. We did have his hearing checked at 4 and it's fine. He is capable of talking quieter, but his natural volume is loud.

  • I don't think they possess inside voices.

  • Oh man.  Well, at least I'm not alone.  lol.

I totally deserve this because I always said I'm "voluminally challenged", as in I get loud and don't realize it.  She keeps getting all of my worst traits.

  • Mine can't either. I either whisper back at her.  Sometimes I tell her I can't hear her when she yells and that helps.  I have also noticed that she gets louder when she is tired.

  • I am convinced my almost 5 yr old DS has no 'inside voice'. It was fitting that i got him a t-Shirt last year that says 'Not available in Quiet' LOL

  • You are not alone. My 6 and 9 year old still have a hard time with it.

Sometimes I just move my lips without making a sound to mess with them and make them think they've finally damaged their ears forever.
