Babies: 9 - 12 Months

9 month bedtime routine

Hi Moms,

I'm new here, nice to meet you! I'm sure this has been asked before but could you please share your 9 month old night routine with me? As of now we are in a major sleep regression and I also want to get my LO away from having a bottle to fall asleep. How long before bed do you do the last bottle? LO is on 3 meals of solids a day and 4-5 bottles...this is changing too

Thank you!

Re: 9 month bedtime routine

  • My daughter just turned 10 months and still getting a bottle at night, but our bedtime routine is as follows:

5:00 pm- Dinner. Bits and pieces of whatever we are eating

    6:00- Bath time

6:15- Fresh diaper, nighttime lotion, and jammies

630- Story time, cuddle time, song time.

7:00- Put her in crib. She is still awake and alert but she will be rubbing her eyes and yawning. I also give her an 8 oz bottle.

She is out by 7:30 and sometimes wakes in the middle of the night for another bottles. But most of the time she is out until 7 or 8 am!

If you want to get away from the bottle, try giving LO a sippy of just water when they lie down at night. Eventually, if they are not tasting the BM of formula, they might just give it up all together.

  • M is 10.5 months but we have done this same routine since birth, with the exception of pushing her bedtime later as she got older.

    7pm- Supper. BM and food

    7:30 - bath, pajamas

7:45 - story, put in bed by 8, wide awake. Will talk or play herself to sleep. Sometimes 5-10 minutes, sometimes an hour.

    STTN until at least 8am.

This is almost exactly like ours, except I feed her a little earlier, like 6pm, with solids, then right before bed I give her a bottle.  She doesn't fall asleep drinking it.  She's playing when I put her down.  I don't lay her down--I just sit her down.  And I don't feel badly about the bottle before bed.  All of the things people have told me will form bad habits, etc, just haven't happened.  I'm not stressing food amounts or times.  I'm teaching her to eat herself, but she's just not quite there yet.  I'm just trying to go with her flow at this point.  It's worked beautifully for us so far.
