Bottles

I am looking for good bottle recommendations. The bottles that we used with DD I hated, so I pitched them once she was done using them. I am looking to try and invest in something different this time around, but would like reviews from mom's first. So which ones do you love?

Re: Bottles

  • A lot will depnd on your baby.  We started with Dr. Brown and their preemie nipple.  We used them for awhile and realized DD had a horrible latch with the standard sized nipples.  She would make a mess and take in a lot of air so we switched to Born Free and she is doing much better.

  • We used Born Free for DS without any problems and plan to use them again for this LO.

  • FTM here so I don't have any experience except the research I have done. I have heard the best reviews all round for Avent and Playtex Ventaire. GL!

  • We use Avent for my pumped bm and love them.

  • My first born would take any bottle given to her - She even started stealing older kids' sippy cups at a young age (SO EMBARRASSING!) but my second couldn't seem to get the grasp of anything but the Avent. FWIW, I was pumping but she couldn't latch for some reason, so we were using BM in the bottles exclusively.

  • We used Born Free and liked them a lot, but around 8 months we switched to Nuk Orthodontic and I loved them more. I just got tired of washing all the Born Free parts.

  • We had Mam, Avent and Playtex Drop ins.  Drops ins were our favorite.

The Playtex Ventaire is what we used last time, they leak horribly on everything. Which is one of the many reasons I don't want to use them this time. I have heard great things about the Avent ones though.

  • We tried a bunch of different bottles with DS but the only ones that really worked correctly were the Dr. Browns bottles. Most other bottles tended to not allow air back into the bottle and the suction would slow down until we would have to remove the bottle from his mouth the even out the pressure. This usually made him cranky especially late at night. We used the 6oz glass bottles when DS was younger and when he started drinking more/throwing things we moved up to the plastic 8oz bottles. The platex ventair were ok but tended to leak if not put one 100% correctly which gets frustrating as hell at middle of the night feedings (I've thrown a few lol).

  • The ones that have worked best for us are the cheapie Gerber ones with 0+month slow-flow nipples.  We also use those same nipples on the Medela breast pump bottles (and the Gerber bottles fit on the breast pump too, which is nice).  We just tried the Playtex Ventaires last week and the slow-flow nipples were more like no-flow.  I don't if it was just a bad nipple or if they're all like that, but we went right back to our Gerber bottles and nipples.
  • Born Free all the way! Neither of my boys have had any issues or nipple confusion. It does depend on the baby though. I also have the Medela feeding set that I pump into, and he takes a Medela nipple no problem.

  • Born Free are what we use and our babies haven't had any issues.  They have no problem with any nipple confusion and take to bottle, nuk and breast totally fine.

  • I posted this on the multiples board and the came here looking for answers too.

My plan when the twins arrive is to pump and bottle-feed. I hope to pump enough, but will supplement with formula if needed.

Do you bring your own bottles to the hospital or do they give you bottles to feed with? What kind do they use? When you got home, did you keep using the same kind, switch to the brand you wanted or try them all to see what the babies preferred?

I am working on my registry right now and the whole feeding section is really overwhelming.

    Thank you!

I know the Texas health hospitals do not supply bottles as they are breastfeeding designated hospitals. A lot will depend on what hospital you are delivering in. I plan on doing exclusive pumping and they told me to bring the bottles I wanted to use. I am going with the playtex nursers with dropins because you can get the kit to pump straight into the liners. I know Methodist hospital also.doesn't provide bottles either.
