Brew, cooker, MrsJDD, & other pg chicks:

Do you guys ever get dizzy spells?

I never had m/s with either pg and have never gotten dizzy spells before, but I've had two in the past few weeks that just came out of nowhere.  Just now, I was sitting here and had to put my head between my knees for a while because I felt like I was about to pass out.  I've eaten (a ton) and my glucose test and blood pressure are normal.

I'm wondering if this is just a normal 2nd tri thing I'm forgetting (or missed out on) from last time, or what?

  • Yes, every single day for the past 2-3 weeks.  I read somewhere what causes that but now I can't remember.  Anemia maybe?  All my lab work is fine and normal, so I know it's not my blood pressure or anything.  I can't remember if this happened during my first preg., but I'm pretty sure it did.

That happened to my friend during her 2nd or 3rd trimester and it turned out she was anemic.

  • I've had dizzy spells with both pgs now - they suck!  For me they were totally harmless, and I could never identify a trigger.  It's worth mentioning to your OB, though, the next time you see him/her - always better for them to say "it's nothing" than to miss something :)

  • Today was the 1st time I've been dizzy this pregnancy, I don't remember the other two times. But I was dizzy pretty much from the time I got up this AM until I took a nap this afternoon when the kids napped. I felt better tonight.
  • Yep, I had them a lot with #2. ?I tend to have low blood pressure and it is even lower when I am pg, so any quick movement and I would feel light-headed. ?

  • It's happened to me a few times during this pg, but I don't remember it from last time either. I do have low blood pressure so I think that's the culprit for me. Some triggers are when I stand up too fast or feel too hot.

  • I dont get dizzy, but I get light-headed, maybe it is about the same thing.  Usually in the morning I get shortness of breath, and lots of pressure in my chest.
  • Hmmm...interesting.  They've never said my BP was low at any of my appointments, and I mentioned the first dizzy spell to my ob/gyn last time, but he didn't seem too concerned (maybe since it was only one).  I guess even two in 3 weeks or so isn't a HUGE deal, but I'll mention it again the next time I go.  Maybe it's just the way I'm sitting, or maybe I'm breathing too shallow or something silly like that!
  • I've been getting dizzy.  It's usually with quick changes in position like standing up too fast.  Today DH was "dancing" with me in a circle and I got dizzy.  I did a somersault at work today (pediatric physical therapist), and I was dizzy after that.  I think my somersaulting days are done for awhile :)
  • Mine are similar to what you're describing.  It's always when I'm sitting still and comes on out of nowhere.  It's not an all day deal...just once or twice a day and lasts only a few seconds.  No explanation whatsoever...blood pressure's normal, blood work's fine, no anemia yet or anything.

  • I've had lots of dizzy spells this time around and don't remember having them with L.  I also see stars on occasion.  I mentioned both to my doc and she wasn't overly concerned -- I think it has to do with all the extra blood?
