Hi, I posted this on the Working Moms board as well. My head is spinning. My daycare has just let me know that I need to double the amount of milk I send with LO to daycare. She was drinking 15 oz when at home with my hubby, but now they think she needs 30oz a day. I can't possibly pump that much. :-(
Has anyone experienced this?

Re: Milk intake doubled at daycare? XP
That's a lot. EBF babies drink 25-30 oz a DAY not in 8 hours. Why do they think your baby needs so much? Is it maybe to have a back-up bottle or two, and then you can go back to bringing just 15 oz?
My daughter drinks 15-19 oz/day while I'm at work, and as much as she wants while I'm home. And I thought that was a lot.
Is it possible she just wants to suck? DD likes to have a pacifier to suck on sometimes, but if she doesn't get that, she'll keep crying until we put something in her mouth. A boob and a bottle work just as well, even if she's not hungry.
I hadn't thought of that, but I bet you're right and that she mostly wants to suck. She's never been great with a binky though. :-(
I just can't keep up with 30 oz a day. I'll ask them to work with he ron the paci and I'll try bringing in 3 big 6oz bottles and 2 3oz bottles to see if that helps. I just cringe at the thought of 30 oz a day being consumed there. BF'ing just couldn't last long at that rate.
Wow, 30 oz a day seems like a LOT. If you think they're right (it doesnt sound right to me...I agree with pp...ask about how much theyre making vs what she's eating) then I'd call the Pedi and ask about starting solids if you haven't already. 30oz seems extreme though.
My Colton...Growing up so fast!
And Coralee, his baby sister...On the way!
That seems like a lot! I was just going through the same problem the other day because my DD seemed to be hungry lately. I was only sending 3or 4 3oz/3.5oz bottles and I just started sending her 4 4oz bottles this week because she was getting hungry in about 1.5 hrs or less sometimes. I cannot imagine her eating 30 oz in one day, and it is weird that they just want you to double it before slowly increasing the amounts.
I agree with pp and would send some larger and some smaller bottles because she may just need to suck. Also, for my DD I started sending 4 bottles instead of 3 when she started breaking up her naps. She associates eating and sleeping so when she went from 2 big naps to 3 shorter naps she wanted a bottle before going down.
Definitely find out why they think she needs double because that seems ridiculous. Increasing bottles by about an ounce at a time if she starts getting hungry more frequently or isn't satisfied immediately after is what we've done.
DC says that all babies like to eat but my DD really enjoys her milk and she takes 3 5 oz bottles and sometimes an extra 2 oz at the end of the day. When she was 2.5 months we had a sitter that was feeding her that amount in 4-6 hours and it really messed her up for a while. She had bright green mucousy diapers but they would start clearing up when I nursed during the weekend, so I knew over feeding was the culprit.
That is crazy there is no way anyone could keep up with that. Two thoughts, I wonder if they are mistaking her cries for hunger cries. Perhaps she just needs sometime getting adjusted.
Also, I found that DC teachers are so used to FF babies that they are surprised to see that BF babies don't take as many ozs. I think FF babies sometimes take twice as much (I may be wrong)
We only send 3, 4 oz. bottles a day and that is plenty. I remember the first week or so one of the teachers asked me if that would be enough and it has been.
Trust your instincts, there is no way your baby has doubled her intake that quickly.
