Nursery is nowhere near being ready

Is anyone else going really slow about setting up their nursery? We haven't even bought a crib yet! We have a few things like bedding and a couple of must have items like a bouncer and what not. Other than that, we've got nothing. A few onesies and sleepers, but we're just not even close to being prepared! I keep thinking that I need to get out and buy stuff because I don't want to spend a ton of money all at once but I also don't want to be done too early or then I'll just be too anxious.

Re: Nursery is nowhere near being ready

  • Yeah we don't have our crib yet either :)

I'm in the same boat. I know I need to buy it but I don't want to buy everything at once.  The credit card bill kills me every month!  H still has some minor details to fix in our nursery before we can actually start putting furniture in so I have to wait for him to be done anyways.  He's away for two weeks now so it'll delay even more... Oh well.  No use in stressing.  I still have 10 weeks to go! Tongue Tied

  • We just painted the nursery last weekend and ordered the furniture.  I just have odds and ends all over the house and nothing is organized yet!  So you're not alone!  Guess it's time to get on the ball b/c it's only going to get harder to get all of it done!

  • We might be moving in September so we've done nothing for this LO.  Granted we have most things from DD.  There are still things we need though.  Especially since we will need to set up a big girl room for DD.  And for the record we didn't have a crib until DD was 5mos old.

Currently going through our second deployment. Can't wait for Zoe to meet her daddy!

  • We have painted the walls and assembled a shelf. That is it. I've bought 7 onesies as well.

We just got our crib yesterday and it's sitting in a box waiting to be assembled. We're also refurbing a vintage dresser and need to paint and put new hardware onto that. As long as the baby doesn't come in the next couple weeks I think we'll be okay.

I really want to wait until our shower before I buy anything, otherwise I risk having to return a lot more stuff than completely necessary and I don't want to do that. I think once I have my shower, my ass will get kicked into high gear.

  • We've hardly done anything because I have several baby showers coming up and we want to wait and see what we get from those!  I'm really excited though because I had a shower on Sunday and we received the bassinet we registered for!  LO is going to be in our room with us for awhile so at least she'll have a place sleep Big Smile

  • As always, I CAN'T do anything! The guy "remodeling" the basement is a frickin SLOW POKE!!!!! He was supposed to be done with ds1's room end of June. It's the end of July and he's not even close! But he's been the landlord's buddy for about 20 years, so I guess he gets some slack? He keeps saying every weekend he'll be there to finish it up; at least it's all sheetrocked, but that's it!

So until that's done, so we can recarpet and paint, then move ds1 down there, then move ds2 into ds1's old room, we can't do a thing for Pumpkin's nursery!

  • Have done absolutely nothing yet. And I don't know if I should wait for the shower or is there a concensus that no one really gets furniture for showers?

  • I am right with you! I have a crib that I got for free from a friend and a few yard sale buys but that's about it. Everything is in a pile in our extra room (not the baby room). We are going home for 2 weeks on Friday, my plan is to kick it into high gear when we get back.

  • We only have our crib so far...and it's not set up. I will be painting the nursery tomorrow (yay!) but we don't have our bedding or our mattress, so the crib will have to wait for those things. My goal is just to get the nursery mainly set up by the end of August. I agree that I don't want to get stuff done too early or I'll feel useless and start to come up with problems!

  • My entire stock of baby items is listed below:

1 rock and play (still in the box)

    3 stuffed animals

    6 books or so

our doorway jumper (still in the box)

    2 lullaby CDs

    1 sling

That literally makes up the full list of baby items we have so far.  We don't have a crib, don't have a car seat, don't have any diapers and I don't have a single outfit, onesie or pair of socks.  Am I a bad mama already? Stick out tongue

My first shower is in a week and a half, and we have a trip planned to get our crib and changing table the week of August 13th.  Otherwise, I'm not buying anything until my showers are over

  • We have nothing either!   I did order a rug this afternoon but it's on back order until the end of August! I still need to pick and order fabric for our chair and ottoman to be recovered in (who knows how long that will take!),  and so on...I hope to have it mainly done by mid August but we're def pushing it!

  • I have yet to find an apartment so the nursery isn't even a priority yet. Regardless the baby will be getting one wall of our future room and it will be painted and decorated (the wall) before but the furniture probably won't go in till early October or even later.

  • We are going to be under construction for another month and we are in the "nursery" until then.  Once we are into the new master it will take mayba  week to get the nursery all put together. I am oddly calm about it.  We will also have the baby in our room in a cradle for the first month so if it isn't perfect it won't matter.

  • We're still converting the nursery from the office, and the only thing we have is a travel system that was gifted to us from a friend, and a bathtub that we picked up because it was on sale. We're probably not going to get a shower, so we don't have the excuse that many of you ladies have, we just haven't had the inclination to set it up yet. I've had the bug to clean the house from top to bottom like we had a GI inspection coming up, but setting up the nursery hasn't been a big issue yet. I think I just don't feel like it's close enough, and it's not real enough that this baby is REALLY going to be coming home with us in roughly 11 weeks. Once that kicks in I'll be insisting that everything be done right now. Stick out tongue
  • You are not alone.  We have done really nothing. I have a decal for the wall and few odds and ends but we haven't even painted yet.  I have my shower on the 11th so I am hoping maybe a few sets of parents (we have 4 sets.. all remarried) gets us our furniture otherwise I am dragging DH out after the shower to buy the stuff.  Still need to paint too.

  • My hubby has torn apart our loft to convert it into a nursery. There are still holes in the wall with wiring sticking out, carpet torn out, tools and supplies everywhere. Looks like a disaster area. I am getting pretty freaked out at him since I am at high risk to give birth between 30 and 35 weeks...I am currently at 27 weeks. It is NOT EVEN CLOSE to done. Grrrrrr...

As far as baby gear we have a bunch of clothes, a crib (no mattress), a sling, a bouncer, and a swing, and a couple packages of diapers. I have a shower coming up on Saturday. I will start buying more after that is done, so I will have the gifts to cross off my list :)

  • Um, I'm still trying to clear out the room since we just moved here a month ago. So no, I have nothing done, unless you count putting up the valance with a plain tense rod... we still have one more piece of furniture in there that has to go. Around Labor Day, we'll be getting DS his big boy furniture and moving his baby furniture into the nursery. So I won't be doing anything else in that room until then. I at least have all the baby gear and clothes and everything I need for LO in his walk in closet. It's all sorted, and things that need washing will be washed in September also. We have all the bedding and decor in the closet also, so once we get the furniture in there it'll all come together quickly. I'm not worried ... I have too much else to do still in this house. One thing at a time. Still have 10+ weeks, which is A LOT!

  • We have furniture because we are reusing DS's but it's not set up. I've decided to wait on purchasing some of the decor because we were first told we were having a boy and now they are saying girl... We have one more ultrasound at 32 weeks so I might kick it in to high gear on painting and decorating after that... I don't know I'm so conflicted about it all. Try not to stress (easier said than done, eapecially for me). All you need is the essentials and nursurey probably won't be used hardly until the baby is a little bit older anyway.

  • Ours totally is not done either. DH only JUST finished putting the new floor down, and hasn't finished installing the baseboards yet. Then we've got a friend coming over to paint for us HOPEFULLY on the 30th, and then I can start putting stuff in there! I have the crib, but it's still in the box and needs to be assembled. And the only other gear I have is various hand-me-down stuff from a friend that just had twins, and a few outfits from the grandmas. Just hoping we get it all done in the next 10 weeks!!

  • Seeing this post relieves me a little bit. As I browse posts on here I feel so behind. My hubby and I are renovating the attic to be our bedroom/nursery. We have the crib already but it's not set up.

No need in stressing myself out. I've been really calm during this pregnancy, which is odd for me. I'm glad to see other momma's to be aren't fully set up.

  • I'm not even going to be able to start my nursery until 31 weeks. Cutting it a bit close yes, but we're can't close on the house until then so it's just going to be a rush. You're still good.

  • We have the crib, mattress, and bedding, but NOTHING is set up. And I mean, NOTHING. There is still regular furniture in there, we haven't painted, put up molding, nothing. I have been cleaning stuff out little by little, but no major progress.
