BFN and options. WW TTTC do?

Hi all,

 I'm a sometimes poster, frequent lurker.  Yesterday, I found out that IUI#1 was a BFN.  The nurse called to give me the results of my Beta yesterday and said my choices were to try IUI again or IVF.  We only just did IUI#1 and she's already suggesting IVF!?  Is this something that your RE's do?  Do they recommend IVF right off the bat because of higher success rates or do they exhaust other options before moving on to IVF?  

 On my IUI cycle, I had 3 good size follies on 50 mg of Clomid.  DH's post-wash numbers were 50 million, 74% motility. I feel that because I'm responding well to meds that I should continue on the IUI path.  What would you do?

    I also just had my ist IUI last week and in the 2WW.  If this one is a BFN I would

    definitely still do another IUI.  I would give a major side eye if my doc suggested IVF after only 1 IUI.

    Did she recommend IVF or just say it's an option? If the latter, it's completely up to you. Good luck!

    My Dr wanted me to try IVF right away for best chances of success, I decided I want to try 2 IUIs with injectables 1st.

    I would personally do 2-3 IUIs 

    Me: 32, DH: 34.
    Trying since Jan 2011. Unexplained IF.
    2 IUIs = BFN.
    1 IVF (Dec 2013) = BFN.
    FET, 2 frosties (June 13, 2014)

    14dp5dt-June 27 -BFP, beta 2061. 2nd beta >5000, 3rd beta >5000, 2 sacs 06/30.
    Twin Girls - 02/11/15 - at 37 weeks (no NICU, home with me at 3 days).

    Do you have the morphology #? Maybe that's what contributing to her suggesting IVF.

    Same boat here. I got the call that IUI#1 was negative and my RE wanted to do IVF. I had done three clomid cycles, one with IUI. His theory is if he ruled the world and money wasn't an issue he would have everyone with IF do IVF because it gives the best success rates and ultimately we all want to be KU sooner rather than later. That being said he said I was welcome to try one more IUI, but because of my age (31) he thinks I would be highly sucessful with one IVF and would rather see me spend my money on that then continue to spend it on IUI's when they don't seem to be working.

    It makes sense, but defly not what we want to hear.  That being said Thursday will be 7dpiui and I am going in for my IVF consult to figure out financing and stuff to see if it is even possible for us to do since I have zero insurance coverage for IVF.

    When we started with our RE, he gave us the option of IUI and IVF.  I wanted to do 3 IUI first.  Now that we've done that, I feel more comfortable moving onto IVF.  You have to do what you & DH are most comfortable with.  Good Luck!

    I just had my first IUI yesterday.  DH and I talked about next steps already.  I'm not ready for IVF.  We will do at least another IUI (if needed).
    together since 2006
    full time stepmom to SS1 and SS2 since 2010
    married since 2011

    TTC since 7/2011 (no planned bc since 2008)
    HSG 11/2011: one blocked tube
    S/A 2/2012 and retest S/A 3/2012: normal
    Bloodwork: normal
    2nd HSG 5/2012: clear
    Femara cycle 5mg #1 7/14/12 + IUI #1 7/23/12 = bfn
    New RE appt 8/14/12
    IVF #1 meds 8/30/12. ER 9/14/2012: 7 retrieved, 6 fertilized. ET 9/19/12: 1 perfect embryo 5dt.
    Beta #1 BFP! 97
    Beta #2 234
    Beta #3 4937
    ultrasound #1 heart beat 127
    10/20/12 graduated!!!

    Thanks for the responses everyone.

     They did not give us morph numbers at IUI, but I remember from the S/A everything was in the high normal range.  

     I have zero IF coverage, aside from only some meds, so an IVF cycle would cost us about 20K OOP.  I'd like to feel like I've tried everything else first.  

    Another IUI it is then.  Thank you for all the kind and intelligent responses.

    I would absolutely do at least 2 more IUIs before considering IVF, probably even more than that if the responses were that good. Good luck!
