My LO has sharp nails and scratches her face. She has on the mittens to keep her from scratching but i want to cut her nails but i'm afraid tha i might hurt her....any suggestions? advice?
Wow, your DD is a month old and you have never cut them yet??? I have to cut DD's twice a week!
I was scared to cut her nails. And sure enough, she moved when I was cutting her thumbnail and I cut her finger a little bit. I felt absolutely horrible, but you know what? She lived.
I agree with PP, try to do it when they're sleeping. DD needs to be swaddled to do any sleeping now, and it is much more difficult to trim her nails.

I filed them until 2 weeks ago and started clipping. Clipping is way faster. But she takes more cat naps now so I have to get it done quick while she is in a deeper sleep.

It's never bothered me and (knock on wood) I've never nicked either of kids' skin.
My mom said she was afraid to cut our fingernails when we were kids, so she made my dad do it! lol! My dad has these big, thick hands - I'm sure we got our skin pinched a lot more with Dad doing it than if Mom had had the courage to do it
I posted this exact post a week ago...i bought the zoli b electric file from amazon...so quick and effective. You never have to worry about hurting LO.
I read somewhere once that if you cut their nails, they might bleed. If you don't cut their nails, they'll scratch themselves and bleed anyway. Why postpone the inevitable? That said, it took me a while to be comfortable doing it. It's getting better because I'm feeling more comfortable.
Wait until she's sleeping, put her facing out on your lap. Grab her hand so that the fingers are curling around your hand towards you, clip with the other hand. Works great.
My DD is 8 months old now, but in the beginning I just used the baby file and filed them down. When I felt comfortable, then I started to cut them while she was sleeping. It was way easier to do.

I bite them too when she is nursing.
