Any IVFers out there that did PGD?

Just looking to connect with someone who has done IVF with PGD. I'm about to go into my one (and only) IVF cycle and we are doing PGD. Even though I'm in California, I'm the first lesbian of this particular clinic to do this whole process and it's really been frustrating to have to educate them as well as myself.
TTC since April 2010, age 40, 3 miscarriages in total IVF w/PGD June 2012 - failed cycle with a genetically perfect embryo, unexplained infertility January 2013 - On to adoption!!!

  • We have not done PGD but our clinic does it all the time and there is a clinic In NV that prides themselves on this PGD.  We  may possibly do this if we have one more child as I would be giving my wife my eggs  but not sure the cost is CRAZY .

We did IVF though it was our last ditch  effort ... and  We have TWIN GIRLS  who will be ONE in 50 some days - HOLLY MOLLY !!!!!

What clinic are you using I am surprised that a CA clinic is not versed on this or maybe I misread your post ???

  • Like everyone else here so far, we did IVF but not PGD.  I hope it goes well for you.  It's a stressful process.

It's UCSF but frankly, I only know of a small (less than 5) number of lesbians doing IVF. Frankly, most can't afford it. We aren't typically high earners and it's certainly not covered in insurance. So I'm not surprised that I'm the first. Also PGD in general is still very new. CCRM has been doing it for awhile but in terms of spreading to other clinics across the country, that's relatively new. The cost here is about an additional $3k.

Best of luck to all of going for IVF right now!

I'm sorry I can't help you and I wish you all the best...  but I wanted to comment on you being the first lesbian - I too am surprised, as at my RE's office in NYC it's not uncommon for us to see several other female same-sex couples while we're in the waiting room.   But regardless of that, how is IVF with PGD any different considering that you're a lesbian?

TTC with PCOS since July 2011.
    IVF Oct/Nov 2012
    Beta #1 = 77, Beta #2 = 190, Beta #3 = 1044
    Cautiously optimistic.
  • There is a group on facebook IVF with PGD support Group. There is a few girls there that have done IVF with PGD to help answer questions. Anyone that is interested should join. Just type IVF with PGD Support Group in the search bar on facebook.
