I EP but have needed to start supplementing. I have tasted my BM out of curiousity and it was actually kinda good- tasted sweet. It doesn't really have a smell. I started supplementing with Earth's Best brand and it smells yucky after I mix it. I tasted it last night because I was curious and holy hurl. It tastes just as bad as it smells. I'm surprised DS will even drink it. I am wondering if other ones taste better- anyone know?
Re: Has anyone tasted formula & know if different ones taste different?
Mine is on the Similac advance, which I have tasted and I think it does taste pretty good. Not that different from breast milk. Have only tried the powdered form, I assume concentrated or ready to feed tastes the same.
Similac tastes good. Enfamil is nasty!
I have a tub of Similac Advance in my cabinet that someone gave me too. Maybe I will try that one next time instead.
On that note, does it matter if I just switch to another?
We bought a small tin of Similac when LO was 4 days old because my milk hadn't come in yet and she was crying constantly because she was so hungry. I felt horrible feeding her the formula though as soon as we'd mixed it. It smelled like milk gone bad and tasted gross too. I don't know if other brands are different though. It was the Similac Advanced we tried.
We had a lot of BF problems and I probably would have switched to formula if it didn't smell/taste so bad.. I didn't try any others though. I decided to EPm instead.. lots of work but worth it IMO.
I think it depends on the baby and the formula, I'm one of those people that double checks everything with the doctor because i'm afraid of doing something wrong
My doctor told me that it is okay to try a different formula. When mine first started I went back and forth between gerber and similac, she seemed to like both fine and didn't have any issues getting switched around. But I thought it would be good to have her on a consistent diet and stuck with similac.
If you are at all concerned you should double check with the doctor.
Yes, I have a can of the Similac Sensitive, but I am giving it away. I won't feed it to him because the #3 ingredient is Sugar!
I have no input on taste, but I just want to add that DD was EBF but when I finally broke down we put her on Similac Sensitive, and it worked wonders. Minimal gas and spitup, whereas when our local grocery is out of sensitive and we have to get regular Advanced, she is always fussy and gassy.
I've often wondered this...T is EBF but my sister's son who is 5 weeks older is FF and whenever I watch him I think he smells like formula (STINKY!)
Formula is the best choice for him but it definitely has a string smell.
