How to pass the time without spending $$

Soooo glad Im not on bedrest, major props to those who are, I would go crazy. I was taken out of work last week and Im already bored. All I can think about is meeting our little one, and trying to guess when he/she will arrive. Dr said I can still go out and do things but with low income that can get a little tricky. What do you girls do to pass the time without spending too much money??

  • I'd start getting meals ready, cleaning the house now, organizing, reading up on sleep training, etc.

Otherwise if you get stir crazy I'd go people watch at the mall.

We have been having loads of rain and I already have a DD, so we have been doing tons of family free things.  But when DD is sleeping or during the evenings, I do a lot of reading.  I get tons of books from the local thrift stores for $.99 or you could get some free ones from the library.  If you have an e-reader or tablet, our library lets you check out e-books as well!  Also, do a in-home spa.  Take a nice bath, paint your toenails, do a salt scrub, etc.  Some local parks during the summers will show movies on the lawn.  Not sure if there are adult movies, but even kids movies can be fun to watch on a blanket with a picnic dinner.  Depending on where you live, the beach is always a great idea (we live 5 minutes from ours and always park in a free public access).  Check the newspaper for some sort of weekender section.  Often times they will advertise farmer's markets, free art festivals, music festivals to check out in your area.

Hope that helps and enjoy the time you have left!

Find a couple of shows you have never seen & watch them from the beginning on Hulu or on demand. Read a book series. Play a video game.

These are things I did on bed rest. Things I wish I could have done while stuck on the couch: Cook meals a head. Clean my house.

  • I've been cleaning like crazy.  Not the most fun way to pass the time, but I have to say the house looks great.  I hate to admit it, but I really neglected a lot of housework while I have been tired and not feeling well this pregnancy.  Plus all the activity makes me contract.

  • I had 2 weeks off of work before DS was born and it was boring!  I read, watched tv/movies that my husband doesn't like, played a Wii game and went for walks.  I think I also did some last minute stuff to prepare for baby and made freezer meals.  But it got boring, not sure there's a way around that!

  • I would make freezer meals, read and watch movies. Can you also take a walk, or are you supposed to be taking it easy?
