Birthday traditions

DS will turn 1 tomorrow, and I really want to start a birthday tradition that we can continue each year with him and any additional children we may one day have.

Does anybody have any fun ideas for birthday traditions or experiences that you had as a child that you loved? I'm in desperate need of ideas!

Re: Birthday traditions

  • Probably won't work for your boy, but for my girl I got her the Disney Precious Moments One Year figurine. This year it's Snow White. So she gets Snow White DVD and the figurine. It's her first year going to Disney World too, so that is what gave me the idea. Next year I think it's Cinderella, and then Ariel, then Sleeping Beauty, etc.

  • I had a collection of hallmark figures that were numbered for each age. I would get one along with my presents for every birthday. We also do a special ornament for each year along with a snow globe for Christmas Traditions.

  • I like the stepping stone idea.

We got a plate with her name on it and she'll eat her bday dinners or her bday cake off it each year.  I can't take credit for this idea, I stole it.

When we were kids, we got to choose the dinner on our bday.

Not necessarily something to do, but we are making a stepping stone with Hadley's feet prints in it and the year, and plan to make one each year on her birthday and make a walkway with them... so you'll be able to walk down the walkway and watch her feet grow over the years. Kinda corny but I love the idea.

That is such a cute idea~!

I LOVE this idea! Thanks for sharing! Are you doing the stone yourself? If so, how?

These are all good ideas! Thanks!

  • We do the party on their birthday always. We also let the birthday kid choose their dinner along with their decorations. Thats it.

I did a picture collage on the wall in the shape of the number 1. Gotta love pinterest!

I plan on doing it at least through her 9th birthday. Once we get double digits, it might be too much work...just kidding!

    Me too!

  • A lady I work with has a super fun birthday tradition that she does with her family.  When it's somebody's birthday the family has ice cream for breakfast.  Her kids are older now (High school and college)  and they still love it!  They also have ice cream for breakfast on April Fool's Day!  Super Cute!
