How do I do this?!

I'm going back to school part time right now, but as of next fall I'll be going 18 hours a semester PLUS working as much as I can, and taking care of an 18 month old. How do you make time for your babies and do everything else in the meantime!? I'm at a loss- I need to finish school so we can move out on our own and start our own lives but it's so daunting!

Re: How do I do this?!

  • I am not sure what you are going to school for, but is there any possibility of taking some online classes or evenings? Obviously, online would be nice, because you could at least be home with your LO. And I know of several women who toughed it out in night school; it was hard, but at least they felt like they weren't "missing" anything, since their kids were usually already in bed by the time they left for class, and then woke up the next morning none the wiser.

  • When I was in school (I graduated this past Dec) I was an online only student + worked FT, and took care of ds.

Evening classes would've never worked for me because I wouldn't have ever seen ds. I always did my homework after he went to bed (about 9-10 those days) and worked until 1-2am. Then was up at 730am, rinse and repeat for 2 years.

So, your response to how do you do this? You just do. That's the ONLY explanation/response anyone can give you.

  • Like lurch said, slow and steady wins the race. I have been taking 2 online classes per semester, and now I'm adding an on-campus class this fall and next spring (only because I am required to do the science classes w/ labs). I am very lucky in that I have an easy desk job that allows me to get a lot of my school work done during the day. I will be finishing my associates degree next December. I am thinking about applying for the police academy after that, so I may not need to go to school further than that.
