My opinion on unpopular opinions

I hate that I feel like I can't express my political opinion (especially to people on this board) without completely changing people's view of me. I respect that everyone has a different opinion on these matters. I don't think that makes anyone less intelligent for what they believe. At least they HAVE an opinion. I think you're wrong Wink , but that doesn't stop me from liking you.

However, the one time I DID express a political opinion it was a complete sh*tstorm. So I bite my tongue every time someone says something negative on here about my party or my candidates, because it's not worth losing "e-friends" over. It's regrettable to me that we can't still like each other because of stuff like that. And what can I say? I like to be liked. Stick out tongue

I probably will get flamed for not having the balls to give my political opinion now. Haha.

For the same reasons, I stay out of all political discussions. I think I am in the minority here, and really don't want to get flamed over it!

I think you bring up a good point. Often instead of having debates we flame. It is important for everyone to remember that other people don't always share our opinions.

no, i totally agree with you. I thought thats why we have an unpopular opinion day... there for you can say what you feel.. even if its unpopular... maybe you should say it on FFFC so you dont get flamed? even though i dont think anyone should get flamed for a belief of any kind.

So glad I'm not alone! I completely stay out of them because any time I enter a discussion people make me feel like a horrible person for having my opinion. It's not worth getting myself worked up over.

I could have written this myself. This is why I rarely say anything in political discussions. No one is going to change someone else's opinion, so why worry about it? I'll only be accused of being an ignorant redneck anyway.

I can't say I recall what "side" you're on... but I feel the same exact way.

Lol...no. Actually I am not a Palin lover or hater. I'm kind of neutral. Oh forget it, here's my opinion, love it or hate it!

I think Palin is WAY over-talkative in the media to the point of gagging people. But, I do agree with a lot of her opinions. I'm a very empathetic person and always try to look at both sides of a situation. I do the same with politics. Like I try to understand WHY the other side thinks the way they do instead of getting riled up about it. Most of the time I still can't understand their thought process, but at least I try!

And I think the entire political system is ridiculous. They all make me vomit because of the bickering and the pay-offs and backstabbing. I'm not sure any of them have the best interest of the country at heart anymore. It's all about power and who has more of it.

i know they get flamed but i dont think they should. but thats wishful thinking. i also had learned the heard way. thats why i dont really participate in them

this place definitely has changed. it seems like ANY time someone has an opinion they get flamed to high hell and their words get twisted and misinterpreted. if someone would just ask for clarification before ASSuming what another means then it would avoid a lot of stupid.

You don't know how many times I've held back a reply on some issue because of just this. I know people are going to rake me over the coals for some of the things I believe. I really don't care because I believe what I believe. I just think it's silly just how crazy some people get when you think differently from them. It's like they're 100% right and you're 100% wrong and there is no such thing as compromise. Or they don't even want to take the time to try and understand why you feel the way you do.

I will stand up on occassion, given the right issue!

I love this post:) I personally think the reason that flames come a rollin' (weird phrase) with political or other highly controversial topics is that people assume they are right and that the other side is wrong and that there is no middle ground (which there most certainly is). hmmmm......I think I just stated the obvious. Oh well, I love this post anyway!

I tend to not get into politics on here or in real life because most people get very angry and start attacking me rather than what I am saying. However, if someone is able to debate properly I'll happily oblige.

ETA: My respect for people does not diminish if they are on the opposite side of the political spectrum UNLESS they get into it without doing their research.

I totally agree. I can respect another person's opinion if they have done their research, and they are respecting mine.
