s/o Anita's french toast post the other day...

Today DH took me to breakfast at a cute little local eatery and I had their specialty: brulee french toast. It was really good thick Challah bread french toast (I believe I detected a bit of nutmeg in it), but then they sprinkled sugar on it and torched it so it had a sweet crispy crust on top. Need I say more? I wanted to crawl onto the plate and snuggle with it.

And I thought to myself, "Self, this would not be that hard to do at home." But then I figured it wouldn't be nearly as good if I had to make it myself.

I thought I'd throw that out there for any of you who have been making, or planning on making, french toast after Anita got us all twitterpated about it. If you've got a kitchen torch on hand, it's worth a shot. I've got it socked away in my list of things to try making "when my energy comes back."

  • And I had JUST recovered from that post... thanks. Now I want French Toast again.  AND, I have a brulee torch.

  • There's an awesome breakfast place about 15-20 minutes from us. I told DH tonight I was craving it and want to go ASAP (prompted  by that thread of course). The only bad thing about going out to breakfast is that DS1 is so regimented with his nap schedule that we have to be there by 8am and Mama is not a morning person!

    This made me laugh!

And I totally agree on the fact that nothing taste as good when you do it at home by yourself Sad They make it with crack or something, but it comes out 100x better than mine ever does.

I'll definitely have to try to make it again sometime soon.

Me too...and I've been exceptionally cranky today, so thanks :)

  • That sounds amazing. I love creme br?l?e and had a craving the last week or so for French toast (satisfied it on Sunday-for now).

  • I should mention that I'm typically gluten and dairy free when I'm not pregnant. My dairy sensitivity has been very lessened by the pregnancy and I threw my gluten intolerance to the wind in order to try that french toast. Totally worth it. I feel like I should scrapbook the experience or something because I know I won't be eating again it after this LO is born.

    Fabulous.

And I was wondering where my never-ending craving for French Toast came from...now I remember!  I have yet to satisfy this craving.  I am thinking I will have MH take me out to breakfast this weekend, and I may even splurge and have a cup of coffee!

  • Need French Toast now! I thought I had gotten over this since the last post, but apparently not. Pancakes also sound awesome.
