Is it possible? I was given a CBFM midway through my cycle with test sticks. So I figured what the hell, its free so Ill feed my POAS obsession. Well as expected I got 3 days of low readings. Then on Friday I recieved a high reading. After doing a little research on how to read the sticks, I can see where my estrogen is rising and "LH" is slowly but surely rising. I woke up too late today to use my monitor but I did take a FM test stick just to see and the lines were equal, though not very dark. From what Ive read this may have read as a peak or have been very close. I plan to take another tomorrow just to see. I am not due for AF until the 23 but I am unsure as to when I O'd. Any insight is appreciated. ![]()
Re: Fertility Monitor detecting pregnancy?
Are you sure you have O'd yet? The only way you know for sure is by temping. If you have a + OPK, then sounds like you may be about to O. If you say you should start on the 23, then you are only a few days past O, so even an HPT probably wouldn't detect pregnancy yet.
Edit: brain faster than fingers
Do you mean yes it could be detcting pregnancy?
I had O symptoms starting the 4th and ending the 9th so Im pretty sure I did O. We have been covering all bases just in case I am just now O-ing. I should be around 8 dpo right now. So its not completely unheard of. I just cant find mouch about people using the cbfm after O.
Oh yes. Its the Clearblue Easy fertility monitor. It tells you low, high, or peak as your estrogen and LH rise.
You O once. On one day...not over the course of 5 days. So basically you don't really know when you O'd or how many DPO you are.
No, fertility monitors can not detect pregnancy nor can you read the test sticks like you'd read a regular stick OPK/HPT.
I know that you only O once. But my symptoms of O last between 3-5 days. And I said in my OP that I didnt know how many DPO I am. And you can read the sticks if you know what you are looking for. But as I said the only one I have actually read is todays because I woke up too late to use the FM. The others have been read by the monitor.
Don't open the sticks to read them. I don't remember where I read it (maybe peeonastick.com?), but they work differently than regular OPKs. Starting in the middle of your cycle was a bad idea because CBEFM will base its testing recommendations for future cycles on any previous ones you have stored. By starting in the middle of your cycle, it's going to think you O insanely early (this was the 4th day you were using it? So it'll think you O'd on CD 4 if you set it to CD1 when you started) and make you start wasting... um... I mean using the test sticks at the very beginning of your cycle.
My recommendation -- reset the monitor, just temp for the rest of this cycle, and start over when you actually start your next cycle (if you do).
You may already know this, but in case you don't: The CBEFM cannot confirm ovulation. It will detect a rise in estrogen (giving you a high reading) and a rise in LH (giving you a peak reading). It's possible, however, for your body to gear up to O, have an LH surge, but not actually ovulate. You could then either ovulate later in your cycle or not at all. The only way to confirm ovulation besides an ultrasound is temping. I highly recommend temping in addition to using the CBEFM.

I didnt open the sticks. You can see the lines just like with a pregnancy test. And I had planned on doing a hard reset on the FM after this cycle. I started the FM on CD 5, which was my actual CD 16. So it is 11 behind my actual CD. I would try to temp but since I have never done it before it wont do me any good because I dont know what my coverline would be. I am hoping that I wont have a reason to use the CBFM next month but if I do I had planned to temp in addition. But I highly doubt I am gearing up to O since my cycles are 28-29 days and pretty regular.
Actually you can get a general idea if your levels are rising just like you can with a darkening pregnancy test. As the line darkens/lightens, your levels are changing.
Not all the time. Last month, you could see gradation on my CBFM sticks. This month looked NOTHING like last month. If I had to guess by sight, I would've said they were all Low when the machine said High. Exception- the Peak was obvious b/c of the 2 lines, but that was it.
The manufacturer says not to try and read the sticks yourself, I now know why!
My change has been obvious. My test stick from 3 days ago has a bright blue estrogen line and barely anything for the LH. Todays has a very light estrogen line and the LH line matches it. I wish I could post a pic but I only have the pics on my phone.
Bottom line, LH surges all throughout people's cycle, there's no ryhme or reason other than around O. These sticks are not meant to test for pregnancy. You need to take a HPT if you want to know for sure.
As I said in my OP I plan to closer to when AF is due. Just wanted peoples experiences. Im not expecting these to give me a definite answer just feeding my need to pee so that I dont go buy tests.
No I am asking for peoples experiences with CBFM. Whether theyve ever had a 2nd surge or whatever. No where in the OP did I ask am I pregnant. I also said that I was planning to test. And I never discounted anything that anyone said. Just educated some on how the CBFM works, as they didnt seem to know.
Well, I feel like I pretty much gave you the scoop, so now you are just looking for someone to tell you that you're pregnant. Which you will not get on this board. Ever.
My first cycle I used the machine, we were not actually TTC, I was just getting used to using the machine and wanted it to learn me. I peed on sticks after I was able to feed them to the machine b/c I can't resist a science experiment. Same thing happened to me w/the darkening of the LH line b/c as I mentioned in my earlier post, LH will cycle back around in the 2WW. Not pregnant!
Your title is "Fertility Monitor dectecting pregnancy" so you must be asking if you could be pregnant. You could also be Oing later in your cycle this time. I usually O on CD18 but this cycle I O'd on CD26. It happens. Just because your cycle is "always 28-30 days" doesn't mean anything. Unless you temp, you don't really know if you O'd.

CBEFM will never detect a second surge because it assumes when you have an LH surge, you ovulate and that's that. You get 2 days of peak, 1 high, and then low until you press the "m" again at the beginning of a new cycle. That's why if you really want to know what's going on, you have to temp along with it. And there's no reason not to start temping in the middle of your cycle. It gives you an idea of your post-O temps if you have already O'd and if you get a good drop before AF, then it's a warning that it's coming and you're not pregnant.
As for not wasting money on tests, CBEFM sticks are way, way more expensive than Wondfo HPTs. Order a bunch of them on amazon and POAS to your heart's content.
Finally, even though you're usually regular, you can always have a random wacky cycle. When we were TTC DD, despite my usual cycles being 31-35 days, our 3rd TTC cycle was 48 days long and, as far as I could tell using CBEFM (I wasn't temping), anovulatory. It doesn't mean something's wrong. With me, I was gearing up to O (CBEFM started giving me high readings) but then I traveled across 7 time zones and several countries, and I think the stress of that just knocked my body off for the month. No big deal. The next cycle we conceived DD.
