Is Aloe Vera safe?

DD has some redness on her arms from being out in the sun yesterday. She was out there just long enough to get from the store to the parking lot, so no more than a couple of minutes, with sunblock, hat, and the stroller shade.

They don't seem to bother her and are not warm to the touch. However, it is still red. Is it safe to put aloe vera on them? Is there a brand that is safe for babies?

Re: Is Aloe Vera safe?

  • Aloe vera is plant based. It should be fine. You can also use milk on sunburns to help cool and moisturize.

  • Aloe vera gel is safe, so long as it doesn't have benzocaine in it. Our pedi said the concentration of benzocaine in the "cooling" gels is too high for babies. You can also use the salve directly from an aloe plant. Can't get anything more natural than that!
