Naps On the Go

How do you ladies settle down your LO when you want him or her to take a nap and you are not at home?  We're in this weird stage where M is sometimes taking one nap and sometimes two, so it's hard to commit when we're going to be able to make it to visit our parents or to go to parties and afternoon barbeques.  It would be nice if I could plan to bring her pack n play more places so we could stay longer and not always be rushing to work around being at home for naptime.  We have done ok on the few times we've done an overnight away from home, because she settles down easily when it is dark and time for bed, but she has a lot more trouble settling down during the day when we are in a strange place.  Any tips or tricks?

Re: Naps On the Go

  • Wish I could help, we are outgrowing our current method of a vibrating swing seat, and while he sleeps in a pack n play at daycare I didn't have luck when I tried, --haven't tried for awhile though. The only luck I do have when away is to make sure he can't see anyone but maybe me and try to block out the noise of people talking.

  • We do naps on the go pretty frequently and have been since DS was born. He takes two naps a day and generally the morning nap is at home in his crib, although occasionally it's out. The afternoon nap is in his stroller more often than not. We live in Manhattan and walk everywhere. I recline the stroller so he is laying down flat and put a light A&A blanket over it so he's not distracted by looking around. I wait until I am pretty sure he's tired. He's asleep within 5 minutes 9 times out of 10.

  • I keep the pack n' play in the back of the car 99% of the time. When we go somewhere and he needs to sleep, we set it up. If I can't do that, I bring the Ergo, and usually it only takes about 10 minutes for him to zonk out in that. I'll have DH close the hood so he doesn't have so much light coming through. We did it at a 4th of July giant party, and people thought it was hilarious he was hanging out the back just snoozing away.
