I am failing at weaning

I wanted to start weaning this summer so that he was daytime weaned before I went to work. I still have a month before work starts but I didn't think weaning was going to be this hard!! I have no strength to resist his powers of cuteness.

When he wants to nurse he crawls up to me, pats my chest, and says, "Mama. Mama. Boo...boobie." And then if I refuse he starts signing milk. How can I say no to that?!?!

You can't... you just can't. I know I wouldn't be able to.

O comes crawling up, "Mama, Mama..." He gets on my lap and starts yanking on my shirt. That's hardly as polite as E, but I can't resist him.

Aww, that is really sweet. He just wants his boobies and snuggle time.

I am worried about engorgement when we wean. We have cut out one nursing session. Soon, we'll work on the other daytime sessions. But even now in the mornings I am full and sore if he doesn't eat on time. How do you cut nursing sessions short when they are already on the boob?

We did BLW (finger foods early on) and my baby is weaning herself. I thought she would nurse longer, but she doesn't seem interested (I'm glad and sad for that). Is your LO eating regular food and plenty of it? Of course some babes are just cuddly babes. Maybe when cutting a session short, handing your DS a cup of water or an interesting something would work?

Yes, he's eating plenty of solids. I wasn't quite expecting weaning to be this hard because he didn't like nursing while I was working. But now that I'm off for the summer he seems to love it. And the more he loves it the more I enjoy it too. I don't know if he will really be daytime weaned when I return to work. Maybe I'm ok with that now. Wink

Jellie, I am so glad you both are enjoying it. If this is a good phase, ride that wave! Maybe your DS is getting more of the good stuff in a good way now that you are home and that's something to enjoy - for both of you. Smile

Manana, yeah, apparently I have one of the babes that is on the early side. My mixed feelings are that I expected to be nursing my babe more Sad and realizing my little girl is making her choice and is growing up Smile . I hope we are still BFing six months to a year from now. Time will tell.

That is too cute to resist! DH gives me big kisses and then nuzzles my boobs when he wants to nurse. I can't resist either.

I just weaned him from night feedings, but it has caused him to want to nurse more during the day. I still nurse on demand, so I feel like I'm nursing him all day! It doesn't help that he has been refusing meals after a few bites.
