Pull Ups (toddler related)

There was a discussion on here before about Pull Ups.  The poster said she didn't think potty training toddlers should have them because they need to feel wet.

I really thought Pull Ups were just diapers that you...pull up.

Is that not the case?  Are they MORE absorbant than regular diapers?

This message brought to you by the mother of a possibly self potty training toddler who doesn't want to spend the money on pull ups but whose MIL bought some so pulling them down is easier.

Re: Pull Ups (toddler related)

  • It's just not the same -- regular diapers don't have the same wet feeling as cloth either.

This is why generally, kids in cloth diapers train faster.  Though they do have training pants, etc.  cottonbabies.com has some cute ones.

Personally we're going to avoid pull ups all together and just do underwear and deal with the mess, or these training pants.  It's not worth going backwards to me, plus a lot of kids seem compliant about the pull ups.  It's just what they're used to.

  • They are less absorbant than diapers, but like you I find them to be a waste of $$$. If your looking for something cheap, try the generic brands (we use Target).

As for potty training, my oldest DD one day just wanted to wear underwear. We told her no accidents, she did have them for three or four days and then finally one day it just clicked for her. She now only wears pulls at night (although she is dry most of the time). I'm not sure when we will get rid of pulls (maybe when we run out!).

They are still pretty absorbant.  They, however, do not help with potty training.  In fact, this morning, DS1 says "I gotta pee" so DH says, "Ok, let's go on the potty" and DS says, "No, I go in my diaper." /Facepalm.  At least he doesn't like to poop in them, so we can usually get him on the potty for that.
