Diaper rash question- Moms of boys please come in

My DS has a diaper rash. I've been using cream and it is getting better. My BIL told me exposure to air helps a lot & let DS be naked for a bit to help the rash go away. But BIL has a little girl..

Moms of boys, are there any tips for doing this? My little guy gets good distance & if I let him be naked, he'll pee everywhere! Is there a trick to it or do I kinda just have to hope for the best? Lol!

We put a baby washcloth folded in half over his penis for bare bum time. We also will put down a towel on the bathroom floor for a bit so if he does pee, cleanup is easier. My little guy is more prone to peeing on his own face than distance peeing, though.

I've always used Aquaphor and it takes care of it pretty quickly.

Maybe I'm kind of gross, but I'd put my son on a large towel to be naked and if he peed/pooped, then he peed/pooped. Being on the towel saves your floors and at least contains the mess.

But yes, your BIL is correct in saying that air time is the best remedy for diaper-area rashes.

Also, maybe it was my son, he would pee a bit to begin with, but he wasn't continually peeing like a fountain, so it'd eventually stop. Good luck!!

I always did naked time on the changing table. I'd put a burp cloth under him and a washcloth over his crotch. Then he would happily kick away and if he did pee I just pulled off the changing pad cover and threw everything in to the wash!

i have waterproof pads that are supposed to go in the middle of the change pad (on top of the cover). i put one down on the floor then put a big towel down. if he pees, honestly i just point his penis on a part of the towel that i know is over the water proof pad. then i fold or adjust the towel so he's not laying in the pee. if he poops or pees more than once, i just clean him up and put a different towel down. we have a bunch of odd towels that we never use that are perfect for this-his ebf poop stains. we let him kick around for at least a half hour. then we do a bath.

i always let him air dry for 10 min whenever i remove a wet diaper. also i use washcloth soaked in warm water to wipe insted of wipes .

I use desitin and it works great...It prevents diaper rash or clears it if you already have it..

I second the Desitin. We tried Beudreaux's (sp?) for a week and a half, but it didn't help. When I switched to Desitin, it cleared up within a few days. Good luck with bare bottom time. My LO is in such a hold-me phase that I'm not sure I could get him to lay down on his own anywhere unless he's asleep.

BIL is right, naked time does work really well. Go buy some puppy pee pads to avoid messes.

I have a package of peepee teepees but they don't work well for us. They don't stay on when DS wiggles around and it is more annoying trying to keep them covering the area than it is to just deal with a pee spray. Using a washcloth is much easier, IMO.
