Baby sleep cycle?

My daughter is 8 weeks old and lately she has had many days where she wants to sleep very little during the day, which is sometimes good because she then sleeps more at night.  However, she also has some days where I swear all she does is sleep.  For example, today she has slept the day away and has only woken up when she is hungry - I swear it's like having a newborn in the house again!  Does anyone else find that their LO has a similar sleep cycle....little sleep some days and then lots of sleep others?  TIA!

Re: Baby sleep cycle?

  • My LO is the same way - it seemed to start at 7weeks and has continued since. He is sleeping better at night, so I am not complaining at all.

He is sleeping a lot today - but I think that is because he got his 2 month immunizations this morning.

  • I can count on a good 2+ hour nap after her 7am feeding, but the afternoon (2-6) is kind of a crap shoot.  She might nap, she might not and she's really fussy when DH gets home.  We do her bedtime routine and she falls asleep around 830pm.  Night time sleeping is really unpredictable, sometimes she'll get up twice to nurse, last night was 3 times with lots of fussing in between.  My longest stretch of sleep was 3.5 hours.  Aren't 8 week olds supposed to be sleeping longer stretches?

  • My 9 week old has never been a great sleeper. Last week though she started giving us 4-5 hours in a row at night, then 3, then 2. The past three days she has returned to waking up every 2-3 hours and fusses in between feedings. I thought we were moving forward, but it seems that didn't last very long. Her naps can range from 20 mins to 2 hours, and there doesn't seem to be any consistency there either.

  • Naps are hit and miss for my 6 week old but he consistently sleeps 5 - 6 hours at night.

  • For the past week DD's sleeping has been all over the place. But for the past couple days she's been sleeping about 6-8hrs during the early evening to early morning (like 6pm - 1am). It's gotten to the point where I've given up on her napping throughout the day. So if she does, it's a pleasant surprise & I'll try to get stuff done around the house....if I don't nap myself! :)
