2nd Trimester

A/S Question

Did your doctor go over the results with you on the same day or do you have to wait a bit?

Our a/s is tomorrow and I will be freaking paranoid if the doc doesn't tell me my little one is growing fine.

Mine is done at the hospital at the MFM office. The doctor there that day reviews the results before you leave. If something is wrong they come talk to you, if not the tech comes back and gives the all clear.

ETA: The tech talks to us the whole time, what she is doing, why, what she sees. But the final word that all is good or not comes from the MFM doctor in the office before you leave the u/s appointment.

My office schedules an appt with the OB for after the a/s, so we go over it the same day. Do you have an appointment scheduled with your doctor?

Yup. My 20 week appointment is right afterwards.

  • The short answer is that if you walk out of the appointment without being told you need to come back in a week or two, all is well. :) If there is a problem, yes, you will be told about it tomorrow. Otherwise, if all is OK, you will get a smile and a "good luck" and go on your merry way.

  • I had my A/S with an x-ray tech, not my doctor. She told me that everything looked great and that baby was healthy. My doctor will go over results with me at my next apt. in 2 weeks, but I believe they would call if they felt anything was wrong to correct things if needed. The tech told me the guess of how much baby weighed and the length, and usually the pictures also tell you when they print them off (since they have to type the info on the pic for the doctor!) Hope this semi helps! Good luck! :)

  • I had mine y'day, and the tech went over everything with me during the u/s, and then I met w/ the dr right after who confirmed everything looked good.
  • Mine was done by a doctor (Level II u/s).  He basically gave me the information as he was doing the scan.  It was a little annoying the way he did it, basically he kept saying things like, "If the brain looks like a peanut then that's bad, but it looks like this, so that's good."  Over and over like that.  It was nice to get the information as it came in, but just a simple "Looks good" would have been better.
  • The ultrasound tech told us everything during the a/s. Whenever she measured anything she told us that it looked good. Then she spent extra time on the heart and said that there might be an issue. After the scan at the appt with the doctor we talked about scheduling a fetal echocardiogram. We didn't have to wait for any results from our a/s.

And even if they do find something, don't panic! They were worried there might be a hole in our LO's heart, and when we had our fetal echocardiogram everything looked perfect Smile

  • I'm surprised that so many of the PPs got information at their A/S.

I asked my tech if he would tell us anything, and he said he wasn't allowed to say anything except the sex and what some body parts were. I actually got a call the next day from my dr. saying that I needed to go in 4 weeks later to remeasure a femur (everything turned out fine though). When I went back 2 weeks later (I got in earlier), the tech told me that everything seemed to be in order, and then my dr called and said everything was fine.

I don't think the techs are actually supposed to say anything to you, unless your doctor is in the room or gives them the okay....

  • Mine was today and I don't have another doc appt until August 8th. I am assuming if she sees something major she will call me and make a sooner appt. We did get to find out the sex and see baby wiggle around a lot, but the tech didn't mention anything about measurements or how anything looked, good or bad.

  • My OBs office schedules them together. Tech first for the u/s and then the 20w appt and get the u/s report from the OB.

  • I guess I'm just lucky... my DR does our ultrasounds. So, I get the play-by-play as it's happening.

I hope they do it RIGHT AWAY. I'd go crazy. Probably Rambo crazy, I'm not sure.

  • I was told everything looked great, and got a phone call from my midwife a few days later to speak to me about precautions for a low-lying placenta. The voicemail freaked me the F out. So I was happy to find out it was *only* no sex for 10 weeks. :-p (which was later lifted.)

  • I got mine done today at 18 weeks and they want me to come back in 3 weeks. The Dr there said everything looked fine but some things were still too early to see clearly so they wanted to do another scan when the baby is a little bigger. I hope everything is OK

This was almost exactly how my scan with MFM went. The tech went over everything with us, then the doctor came in to re-iterate good news and say when he wanted us to come back and follow up.
