You know, caffiene, deli meats, changing the kitty litter, eating some brie cheese, having a glass of wine at your baby shower when you're 35 weeks PG. Ect, ect, ect.
What are you super anal about vs not being so anal about during PG?
I still drink caffeine, but I do try to keep it under 200mg. If I go over every now and then, I don't worry about it. I heat deli meat, but I still eat it. Don't have a cat, so no problems with kitty litter, but I still garden. Almost all cheese in the US is pasteurized, so I'm not worried about eating it (but if I'm in a suspicious mood I'll just check the label).
I haven't decided about alcohol - I'm not, in theory, against it. I guess I'm just going to wait and see.
I've gotten my hair colored, I still wear high heels, I exercise frequently, and I still use all of the same grooming products.
I really haven't changed that much, besides the alcohol and caffeine (I used to drink a LOT of caffeine). So I'm not a nazi about anything, really.
I have changed 0 of my habits. I don't drink a;cohol (I've been pregnant or nursing for 1.5 years), drink little caffeine, only have deli meat once or twice year when I go to JJ's, and we don't have a cat. I don't color my hair (but if I did I still would), my "beauty" routine is pretty basic and all the products are safe, and my activity level hasn't changed.
I brew my own coffee, so I've gone half and half with decaf. I think that's about as far as I'll go in cutting down on caffeine - I have an hour long commute in the morning so I really rely on the coffee. But I don't really drink soda at all so it balances out a bit.
I'll probably avoid deli meat as much as I can (or heat it), but not panic too much. As PP said, most cheese in the US is made from pasturized milk so I'm not worried about that.
I'll probably have a glass of wine every once in a while. I do believe that some of the benefits of that are worth it, but I'll certainly keep a pretty tight lid on it.
I think the only thing that I'm going to be pretty anal about is avoiding processed food as much as possible. I think our consumption of that type of stuff is off the charts as compared to our parents (I have old parents) and I don't think enough research has been done to evaluate potential effects or illness. I'm lucky though, in that I mostly crave good stuff and have no sweet tooth.
Good topic! I'm interested in everyone else's responses.

Trying to do my best to adher to all... no alcohol (DH is adement about this one), minimal caffine (only a cup of green tea here and there), no deli meats, no soft cheese. I'm even trying to give up artifical sweeteners; have a soda stream, so i'm making my own sodas now. I am also trying to eat more organic; DH and I usually buy organic anyway, but making more of an effort.

During an aquaintence's PG, she was so brutally anal so many of us in the cirle of friends wanted to *** slap her. LOL. Like, it was painful to be around. I think I'm pretty lax about a lot of things anyway, but she was over the top.
I'm trying to think of other things "they" tell you to avoid, but think those were the big ones.
If I'm really needing a boost, I'll have a little caffeine, but definitely under 200 mg in a day. I heated some lunch meat and ate it last week, and if the thought of lunch meat stops grossing me out like it is this week, I'll return to the lunch meats. But I'll probably keep heating them.
As for the kitty litter, my H is doing that, which is awesome.
Alcohol I've been totally avoiding, despite the fact that my tee-totaler H keeps reminding me that many physicians feel a tiny glass now and then is ok. Come to think of it, I did have a few sips of champagne, for our anniversary celebration the day after I found out, because we were celebrating with my family, and I didn't want to raise suspicions.
Soft cheeses are pretty easy - if it's sold in the US, it's either pasteurized or aged long enough to not be an issue, except in a few specialty cheese shops. Which I am trying to avoid right now due to the expense of awesome cheese.
I'm a rule follower by nature, so I've cut out caffeine completely. No cat, so I'm good there. I can certainly find other lunches besides deli meat and I've avoided the soft cheese so far. Definitely not drinking... Much as I love my coffee and wine, I'm just not having a hard time giving it up.

So excited for Baby #1 due March 10, 2013.
I got Dr. permission to have a measured glass of wine an evening (which I did not do quite as often) at the end of the second trimester last time and will probably have a glass here or there towards the end again. He said he was hesitant to say so though because people take liberty with that and end up on a 6 pack a day by delivery. So to be careful and use good sense. I eat brie cheese because its pasturized (the stuff I get anyway) and I eat deli meat in moderation out of the vacuum sealed packages. I will not be as anxious this time around and will just make sure I do my best. As for sushi, raw items like that I will stay away.

My doctor told me to not dye my hair in the first tri. I am trying to grow it out anyway so right now it't not an issue. If i change my mind later on then i will dye it. I don't usually eat deli meat or soft cheese but if i do crave a turkey sandwich then I will eat one (just not everyday). I am trying to be good with coffee and soda but it is hard. I am trying to substitute with caffeine free or decaf and if I really want one then I will have coffee or a regular soda. I will definitely stay away from anything raw and make sure hot dogs are super cooked. I will also not drink unless my dr tells me to especially since i don't like wine.
I don't plan on being crazy with not using things like nail polish or certain makeups or drinking tap water. I think things like that are a little overboard
I'm very anal right now....no deli meats, limit on caffeine, no soft cheeses.....etc

I can't give up feta, I just can't!!! I'm gonna try to do better, but it's just so darn good!!!
I'm still drinking caffeine but I've cut down to two drinks a day of coffee, black tea, or coke. I'm working towards weaning myself totally off, just hard to do when I feel so fatigued. Just now I made myself get a water and some plain almonds as a snack so I feel pretty proud of myself.
I doubt I'll be able to stay away from deli meat. Last time when I was pregnant all I ever craved was a sub from Jersey Mike's. I just craved all the veggies and the oil and vinegar and the cold meat. I figured if I wanted it that bad, there was something in that sandwich that my body needed, and as long as I don't eat it all the time then I'm good.
I'm definitely not as anal this time as I was last time. I guess I figure I have enough working against me, that if something happens it'll more likely be because of my blood issues again than anything else.

I'm trying to go caffeine free but if I have some here and there I won't freak out about it. I highlight my hair but I'm going to make sure to wait until my second trimester before I do it again.
I love deli meats, I was eating a sandwich at least three times a week. prior to pregnancy I also love cold pepperoni pizza. I'm not against a glass of wine or a spritzer here and there, but my DH is being a total nazi. He is saying no to all of that stuff. It's kind of driving me crazy. As he works from home, if I'm there he knows what I'm having. To me it's all about the argument being worth it. It's not worth it to me to fight for one glass of wine. And I can heat up my pizza for 9 months. I'm waiting to see how not eating deli meats goes. If I can adjust my habits, it's not worth the fight. If it becomes a problem I'll talk to him about it.
I'm actually insisting he go with me when I see the doctor so he can hear all of her answers. So if she says yes, he can't say no.
Edit: I'm gladly handing over the cat box to DH. No argument here.
Most feta sold in the US is made with pasteurized milk, so it's fine. Athenos brand, for example, is totally safe.
Right, and all the packaging will say made with pasteurized milk. I think the only kind to be careful about would be those found in a imported or specialty store. I love cheese! All cheese!

Yeah - I think a lot of pregnancy-related literature just says to avoid all soft cheeses, thinking we are too lazy or too scatterbrained to check labels.
I'm trying to be good. I don't know that I'm super anal or anything, but I did drop soda completely. At this point, I would gnaw my arm off for a Diet Dr. Pepper, but I could seriously drink 6 in a day and not blink. Yeah. Not good. So, it's out of my diet.
I had to cut out caffeine instructed by my RE while undergoing treatments and still haven't had any. I haven't been running since the iui but will start back as soon as the RE says I can. I am figuring things out since its so early for me.

Since it took a lot to get this baby, I've been pretty strict. I know that anything can happen and it may not be related to any of these things, but I'm still sticking to what my RE told me.
No caffeine, which means no chocolate either. I don't eat a lot of deli meat as it is, so that's easy. I check cheese before I buy it and I'm not an alcohol drinker in the first place. The only thing I've let myself have (and I've only had it twice since my IVF things started) is chocolate milk. There are only 5mg of caffeine in one serving of chocolate syrup, so I use half that. I'm a HUGE chocolate milk lover and I just had to have some, but I don't use much chocolate.

I'm not giving up caffeine, I didn't last time, either. I only have 2 cups of coffee a day and half a diet coke. I'll probably still scoop cat litter with gloves on again, I'm lactose intolerant so soft cheese is out anyway. No alcohol, I made it 9 months before, I can do it again, lol. I love me some sub sandwiches, I'm not giving them up, either. I wasn't anal last time about restrictions and I won't be this time.
Not much has changed for me so far. I will probably eat minimal deli meat and hot dogs, though this is not a huge change from pre-pregnancy. I'm also not much of a caffeine drinker, but have a glass here and there if I need the pick-me-up. I really want tuna, but I'm trying to keep within the guidelines for how often to eat it.
Other than that, I don't think I'm going to be overly stringent.
Most of the do nots I will not do. However, my roots are starting to look bad. I will have two ultrasounds a week or two apart. I think that I will get my highlights done in between the two just so that I know I will get to make sure the baby is ok soon after I have it done.
I also will not give up my heels. I really don't see the point unless I get so big that I can't walk in them.
I wish that I would not have heard that soft serve ice cream is a no. I could really go for some right now.
I cut out caffeine, proactive face wash, crystal light/artificial sweeteners, hot dogs, bug sprays, lunch meat, and some cleaning products. I may have a glass of wine on occasion in third tri. I'm probably being paranoid, but I lost my last baby at 20 weeks Due to a rare defect and they were never able to determine whether it was genetic or caused by an infection/something I was exposed to early on.
I'm still drinking a cup or less of coffee a day. Even little bit makes a big difference for me.
I'm not eating lunch meat, but I haven't eaten it in years. It is full of sodium, nitrates, and other questionable ingredients.
I am eating lots of salmon, tilapia, shrimp and other fish. I know the few specific ones to avoid.
I am eating eggs over easy. I get pastured organic eggs from a local farmer, so I trust them.
I am eating soft cheese. It is illegal to sell unpasteurized soft cheese in the U.S.
I'm avoiding alcohol, specifically in 1st trimester; however I might have a glass of wine when we celebrate our anniversary at a nice restaurant next week. I'm not regularly consuming alcohol, but I don't think a few drinks during my entire pregnancy will do much harm.
I will eat sushi if the opportunity presents itself (and it seems appetizing...).
I am not taking a "prenatal" vitamin. I am taking 800mg of folic acid (and have been for a while), a gummy multi-vitamin with zinc, iodine and other b vitamins, and occasionally a calcium supplement. This combination is way easier on my stomach and I know I'm getting what I need through my diet, which is the best way to absorb nutrients anyway.
I quit everything! Since I'm Breastfeeding I don't drink caffeine or alcohol. I don't get my hair dyed while I'm pregnant either which really makes me wish I had done that at the beginning of the summer. Luckily I don't do highlights and the color is really cllose to my natural color so it doesn't look too bad later in pregnancy. I figure I can go 9 months without a few things.

This is me too. I'm more anal about processed food and un-researched chemicals in our home. I've switched most of my hygiene care to homemade or products rated well on the Skin Deep data base. I also make my own cleaning products. We're "traditional/real food" followers. Big fans of Nina Planck and Sally Fallon here!
With that said, the past two days the only thing I could stomach were frozen mozzarella sticks, bananas, WW bread with butter, and a little yogurt. I felt so guilty and terrible that there is crappy fried cheese in my house.... I'm hoping this will pass soon and I can get back to eating all those yummy veggies and pastured meat in my fridge! I love green beans, kale, squash, beef ragout... just not this week, I guess
We don't have a cat so I don't have to worry about that, I don't like soft cheese, lunch meat, or sushi, so I don't have to worry about that. I don't drink a lot of caffeine to begin with, but I have cut back to maybe 1/2 a pop every couple days or so. I've never liked coffee so that isn't a problem either. I completely cut out alcohol (wine has been the hardest!) but I had done that before we started our IVF cycle so I have been used to it. I got my hair colored right after my ER, and I only have it done every 10-12 weeks, so by my next appointment I will be 12 weeks so I'm not too worried about that.
I'm still having my one cup of coffee a day, although the last few days it hasn't tasted that great so I switched to peppermint tea.
I'm still eating lunch meat and don't care if it's heated up or not. I don't like brie but I will eat feta without any guilt since I know in Canada it will be pasteurized.
We don't have a cat but if I did I wouldn't change the kitty litter.
I won't eat sushi or drink alcohol.
I do consume a lot of artificial sweeteners (namely Splenda) and I kind of want to try to cut back on that. I also want to eat more fruits & veggies, but am not concerned about them being organic.
To be honest, when my girlfriend was pregnant she was effin' annoying with the things she wouldn't eat and both DH and I agreed I wouldn't be like that.
No caffeine or artificial sweeteners. I was addicted to Diet Dr. Pepper and I want one SO bad, but I know I can't just have one, so I'm cutting it out completely.
Also the thread the other day made me paranoid about cold lunch meat, even though I was one of the ones to defend it. So today I warmed up my turkey and it was disgusting. I may just avoid all together or go back to my original mindset that it's fine.
No alcohol, but I didn't drink anyway so no big deal.
Also, very limited on processed food and sodium. With Colby I swelled HORRIBLY and even though I ate great I gained 65 lbs (lost 45 in the first 2 weeks after he was born - all water!). I'm really trying to do everything I can to not swell so bad this time, but it may just be me.
WHAAAT!?!?!? I eat soft serve ice cream at least once a week, and if I'm being honest, probably twice. This is a heart breaker.
It has to do with the lack of cleaning of the machines. When I heard that it made sense. I worked at Wendy's in high school and cleaned the frosty machine. I would not trust 16 year old me with proper sanitation of things like that. I am thinking of making my own because I want it so badly. If anyone talks about a food, I immediately start craving that food.
I don't drink alcohol, I don't have a cat and I don't color my hair, so those will all be non-issues. I just finished a lovely ham sandwich for lunch and I plan on washing it down with a Pepsi. Which is funny since during my last pregnancy I was anal about everything! I'm much more lax this time around.
I'm eating and mostly drinking whatever I want. I will avoid sushi because I know several people who have had food poisoning from it and in our area, it's not fresh at all. I will not drink any alcohol until at least the 3rd trimester. My OB told me I could have a little bit here and there after 18 weeks but I am personally more comfortable with waiting longer. After 30 weeks... I make no promises.
I don't really drink caffeine but if I want a soda I will have one. The lunch meat and cheese I think is silly.
We were 2 under 2, now 3 under 3!

I told my coworker when/if I get to the anatomy ultrasound and if I hear an "all is good" from the ultrasound technician, that I'm going to drink a glass of champagne. He was like, better make it sparkling grape juice. Eh, no. Champagne. At least a half glass.

LIFE RUINER. *weeps*
It's a girl!
DD born 3/23/2013; Baby #2 EDD 9/7/2015
Soft serve ice cream? I can maybe see soft serve custard b/c it's made with uncooked eggs, but ice cream?
And heels? Are we talking stripper platforms? I wore heels throughout my whole last PG. Boots, pumps, ect.
Is it wrong that this thread has inspired me to head out to the store for some brie?
And possibly also some pierogis. Stupid Pittsburgh and its awesome pierogis.
I don't drink coffee and if I do it's decaf, but I'm not very careful about caffeine in soda or chocolate, but it will be minimal.
I don't really eat soft cheeses anyways, so that's not an issue.
I probably will steer clear of deli meat for the most part, I don't really eat it much. But one sandwich every so often will be eaten, I'm sure.
I don't drink alcohol and don't smoke. I still will be working out 4 times a week.
I eat a lot of artificial sweeteners and probably still will
My little man at 0-1-2
I'm eating and mostly drinking whatever I want.
