This Friday, we will be flying with DS. It's just a short, 2 hour flight, but I'm really nervous. Before becoming a mom, I was so NOT understanding about crying/whining babies on flights and I don't want karma to bite me for it!
Just wondering if any of you had any tips/tricks when you've flown for pacifying LO. The toys he loves are any that light up and make lots of noise, which obviously wouldn't be good for a plane. We'll be flying around his nap time (but it can always be adjusted earlier), and I can't decide if I should keep him up and hope he sleeps on the plane or not. If it's nap time and he refuses to sleep, it will definitely be a nightmare for everyone.
Also, I've called Delta and found out it's free to check the car seat and stroller, but not our pack & play. I hate to pay $25 each way to take his bed, but it's looking like that's what I'll have to do. Any other suggestions for makeshift beds for LO while on vacation?
Thanks in advance!
Re: Flying with LO
I would not stress over a 2 hour flight. Just pack anything small and quite that is easily put in your diaper bag. You'll have your H with you and between the two of you it'll be easier than you think. I've flown with DD for 5+ hour flights alone and they are doable.
I would not bring the PnP. I am not sure where you are going and if you are visiting, but I would either have family barrow a PnP from a friend, buy one from a consignment store if needed, or if you are staying in a hotel use the crib. Almost all hotels offer in-room cribs free of any extra charge. I would definitely pack my own sheets though.
Beware, if you do choose to bring you PnP, the first bag fee is $25 per ticket, then the second is $35 per ticket, etc, etc. So, if you are packing several bags, adding on the PnP can bring your checked baggage fees up way above $50 quickly.
If you are staying in a hotel, use their crib/PNP. If not, buy one from a consignment store and sell it back when you leave or donate to goodwill. You can also get a peapod, it's a tent that has a little air mattress in it and twists down to the size of a big plate. That would fit in your suitcase.
Flying isn't that big of a deal. DS has been on 5-6 trips and we are taking another one this week with him. Just have a lot of options of things to do, different toys, food etc. Toys that make noise are far better for neighbor passengers than a screaming baby! The white noise of the plane generally drowns out the sound anyway. I think the biggest thing is for you to stay relaxed. If you are not relaxed, DC will sense it.
