My parents live out of state, and I wanted to tell them first, before we tell my ILs, because ILs already have 4 grandkids and I'm an only child.  H and I threw around some ideas for how to tell them, and he finally came up with "Let's get them a sympathy card that says "I"m so sorry" on the outside and blank on the inside, and then write "that you're so old you're going to be grandparents.'"  I laughed.

 Yeah, we're actually doing it.  I can't wait to hear my mom's reaction.  Big Smile

    One of my friend's friends did a cool video. They posted it on facebook. It was a slideshow showing photos during the engagement with the engagement date, then photos of the wedding with the wedding date and then it ended with lullaby music and the couple holding up an u/s pic with the due date. I thought that was a cool way to tell their parents. They mailed the DVD and posted it later for everyone else. I don't come up with these creative ways. Heres how we told my mom, DH was relaying the conversation I was having with him when I told him except he skipped all the funny and important parts and jumped to "basically she's pregnant. Surprise." My mom poor mom was like, what just happened? lol. Haven't told my MIL yet because last time we told her, she told everyone and we were trying to keep it quiet. Gpod luck with the card. You'll have to tell us their reaction!

    The video is such a cute idea. I am kinda kicking myself for not telling my SO in a cuter way, but since this was a complete surprise and we weren't trying I felt that I had to just tell him as soon as I found out. I told my parents a couple days later via the phone as the SO & I wouldn't be able to go see in my parents in person soon enough to do so and I couldn't keep it from my mom any longer.

    I just blurted it out!  Mere minutes after I got my positive HPT.  I got my mom on facetime and told her.  :)

    With our first pregnancy, we told my parents by giving them a "gift" and a card. The gift was the book "On the Night You Were Born" and the card was a non-descript/generic one on the outside...on the inside I wrote "Dear Grandma and Grandpa, Please read this book to me in Decemeber (in January if I'm late). Love, Baby (our last name). Unfortunately we lost that LO. I'm sure my mom has held onto the book for when we have our take home baby. We have not told them yet about this pregnancy...probably going to wait til our first u/s and confirmed viability.

    With our first we didn't tell anyone until the second trimester.  MH, his sister, his brother, my brother, and my brother-in-law all have April birthdays so we just do one big April birthday celebration.  The date of the party worked out perfect for our announcement, so I told them that we would get the cake.  We wrote on the cake Happy Birthday Rob, Deb, Mike, Daddy, and Dale!  Unfortunately, no one got it.  My brother-in-law was skyping from California so MH kept holding up the cake and asking him if he could read it.  My FIL was videotaping and actually turned it off before anyone figured out who Daddy was.  

     This time we are putting the baby in a onesie that says Cutest Big Sister.  We'll see how long it takes for someone to figure it out :)
