Re: Happy cyber monday mommy check in!

  • 1)What is the worst peice of parenting advise you have gotten?
Hmmm..."someone told me that breastfeeding isnt that important and not to worry if I cant do it"

2)when did you get more of a feeding schedule instead of on demand?
    Norahs still on demand

3)At what point does poop become more solid?
Once they start formula or solid foods

4)How do you stop toddlers from grabbing things other than "NO NO"?
    spank? I dunno!

5)When your DC throws a tantrum in a restaurant, do you a) leave, b)stay and let them ruin other peoples dinners or c) take them out of the room, wait for them to calm down, then return to the table?
c.) we usually go into the bathroom or outside

    6) If you had problems producing enough milk, what were some things you did to feed DC enough.
supplement formula, fenugreek, mothers milk tea (didnt have to use any but friends have)

7)When did dc quit sleeping in your room?
Jacob was out at 3.5 months...Norahs still in ours (in a pnp)

8)Do you feel like you give yourself permission to get out of the house and do things that you consider wasting time?
    Sure!!

9)whats going on this week?  Questions for next week?

  • 1)What is the worst peice of parenting advise you have gotten? Breastfeeding in bed, it was the most uncomfortable thing ever, and I never fell asleep  and neither did the baby

2)when did you get more of a feeding schedule instead of on demand? We are trying a schedule now - but still do snack periodically during the day

3)At what point does poop become more solid?  Like formed?  much later

4)How do you stop toddlers from grabbing things other than "NO NO"?  Don't say NO!  No - will only get you a toddler who learns the word NO and it will bite you in the ass when they start screaming it back to you - USE DISTRACTION, and say something like "We don't do that in this house" and suck it up - they are toddlers and life is hell til they turn about 4 years old.

5)When your DC throws a tantrum in a restaurant, do you a) leave, b)stay and let them ruin other peoples dinners or c) take them out of the room, wait for them to calm down, then return to the table?  From age 18 months to 4 years old we hardly took Alex anywhere - toddlers are just not able to handle it - sick to your bedtime routine and get take out (Oh but I would leave)

    6) If you had problems producing enough milk, what were some things you did to feed DC enough. Formula

7)When did dc quit sleeping in your room?  AS SOON AS POSSIBLE - it's up to you the parent to suck it up...they will cry - they will scream but the longer you keep them in your room - the more clingy they are to you. Alex was in his crib by 2 weeks old, Willow was harder and went in around 4 or 5 weeks - and NEVER in my bed ever.  And my kids STTN

8)Do you feel like you give yourself permission to get out of the house and do things that you consider wasting time?  This is my beef - I feel like I have no life, I have nothing that resembles the life I WANT to lead...I feel like it's just taking care of kids, work and doing errands, making dinner....repeat.  I have real problems with this - sometimes I'm okay - sometimes I'm just "done"

9)whats going on this week?  Questions for next week?  My birthday - work christmas party - College Finals etc etc

    +++++++++++++++++++

I seem to be in a real mood - sorry  :(

  • 1)What is the worst peice of parenting advise you have gotten? That they sttn early, what a joke.

2)when did you get more of a feeding schedule instead of on demand? I can't remember that far back, maybe around 3 months.

3)At what point does poop become more solid? Once they are eating foods, not just bm or formula.

4)How do you stop toddlers from grabbing things other than "NO NO"? Redirect, redirect, redirect..it's hard, but "no" comes right back to you from them.

5)When your DC throws a tantrum in a restaurant, do you a) leave, b)stay and let them ruin other peoples dinners or c) take them out of the room, wait for them to calm down, then return to the table? One of us would leave with him while the other pays and gets our food to go. We always try and do dinners out early, so he is not overly hungry.

    6) If you had problems producing enough milk, what were some things you did to feed DC enough. Sorry I am no help on this. Maybe supplement a nighttime feeding so dh can feed and you can sleep?

7)When did dc quit sleeping in your room? About 6 weeks?  We tried earlier and I had a hard time sleeping, it was easier with nursing that he was next to us in pnp.

8)Do you feel like you give yourself permission to get out of the house and do things that you consider wasting time? I don't understand the question. I get out of the house on my own, either for errands, or a treat for myself.

9)whats going on this week?  Questions for next week? Santa pictures on Thursday, a gtg with Mom's group on Wednesday.  I am working more this month, nice but makes for a long day/night.

  • 1)What is the worst peice of parenting advise you have gotten?  "Don't breastfeed, it's not worth it."

2)when did you get more of a feeding schedule instead of on demand?  at about 4-6w

3)At what point does poop become more solid? We're still not too solid at 15mo

4)How do you stop toddlers from grabbing things other than "NO NO"?  haha, good luck with this!  I have no clue..

5)When your DC throws a tantrum in a restaurant, do you a) leave, b)stay and let them ruin other peoples dinners or c) take them out of the room, wait for them to calm down, then return to the table?   My question - it's been really hard not to just leave lately.  Not sure how much longer we can go out to dinner. :(

    6) If you had problems producing enough milk, what were some things you did to feed DC enough.  Supplemented with formula.

7)When did dc quit sleeping in your room?  3-4mo? When I put her to bed in her own crib/room and would bring her back to bed with us when she woke in the middle of the night.  Around 6-7mo was when I no longer brought her to bed with us at all.

8)Do you feel like you give yourself permission to get out of the house and do things that you consider wasting time?  No.  When I'm out and about without DD, I'm on a mission to get specific things.  I can't think of the last time I just went out without a list of things to do.

9)whats going on this week?  Questions for next week?  BIL has cancer surgery this week.  :(  I have my 3hr glucose test on Friday then driving to Salem for my nephew's 3rd birthday.

  • 1)What is the worst peice of parenting advise you have gotten?  Just about anything my MIL says.  She gave us a dr sears (I think it was sears anyways) book from 1970's.  Ummmm I think a few things have changed in the last decade or so.  Shoot DH was not even born in 1970.

2)when did you get more of a feeding schedule instead of on demand?  Addie has been a schedule baby from the get go.  She gets mad if her schedule is off at all.  So she did this more so then we did.

3)At what point does poop become more solid?  No idea, but I know we are not there yet.

4)How do you stop toddlers from grabbing things other than "NO NO"?  n/a

5)When your DC throws a tantrum in a restaurant, do you a) leave, b)stay and let them ruin other peoples dinners or c) take them out of the room, wait for them to calm down, then return to the table?  when she gets fussy and we can not quite her quickly then one of us takes her out to the car or to the lobby to get her to quite down.

    6) If you had problems producing enough milk, what were some things you did to feed DC enough. n/a

7)When did dc quit sleeping in your room?  it was around one month or so.  I could not sleep with her little noises and so every second I would go check on her....waking her up in the process.  We all slept much better when she was in her room

8)Do you feel like you give yourself permission to get out of the house and do things that you consider wasting time?  Yup, its called taking care of myself from time to time.

9)whats going on this week?  Questions for next week?

  • 1)What is the worst peice of parenting advise you have gotten? To let DD CIO at six weeks old. Seriously??

2)when did you get more of a feeding schedule instead of on demand? About 5 weeks she spread her feedings out a lot more. Now we have a routine: eat, play, sleep that starts over about every three hours or so until bed around 10pm.

3)At what point does poop become more solid? Good Q

I have only had to do this once but I took her out and soothed her then came back.

    6) If you had problems producing enough milk, what were some things you did to feed DC enough. n/a

7)When did dc quit sleeping in your room? As of last week she starts every night in her crib and then after her first wake up she comes to sleep with us. We get about 4-6 hrs out of her in her room now. Awesome!

8)Do you feel like you give yourself permission to get out of the house and do things that you consider wasting time? I went shopping ALONE last night! It was fabulous. So, yes I do and will more often.

9)whats going on this week? DH's work Christmas party on Wed and a couple dr appts. Oh and Isabelle will have a play date w her boyfriend. :)

  • 1)What is the worst peice of parenting advise you have gotten?  i've gotten a few: that i was breastfeeding my 4 week old too often and to give him water.  that i could let him CIO at 8 weeks old to get him to STTN...

2)when did you get more of a feeding schedule instead of on demand?  still pretty much on demand and every time i think of a schedule or we are in a rhythm he changes it up

3)At what point does poop become more solid?  with solid foods

4)How do you stop toddlers from grabbing things other than "NO NO"?  IDK, maybe say no and then give them something to distract them

5)When your DC throws a tantrum in a restaurant, do you a) leave, b)stay and let them ruin other peoples dinners or c) take them out of the room, wait for them to calm down, then return to the table?    i would try c and then do a

    6) If you had problems producing enough milk, what were some things you did to feed DC enough.  n/a but i heard fenugreek works

7)When did dc quit sleeping in your room?  still is! we moved him at 3 monthsish and then he hit a growth spurt and he hasn't slept much since..... *sigh*

8)Do you feel like you give yourself permission to get out of the house and do things that you consider wasting time?   i'm lucky if i leave the house, he hates the carseat but i do try and go out at least once a day....  we take a lot of walks!

9)whats going on this week?  Questions for next week?
  • 1)What is the worst peice of parenting advise you have gotten?

As a newborn:  "Give her a little cereal, that will fill her up and she will STTN"

    Ahhh, NO!

2)when did you get more of a feeding schedule instead of on demand?  Totally on demand while on maternity leave.  I guess when she started daycare it was more scheduled just by nature of having somewhere to be etc......  At home was on demand until she started solids.

3)At what point does poop become more solid?  Still soft at 16 months and 100% table food  ????

4)How do you stop toddlers from grabbing things other than "NO NO"?

"We do not pull the doggies fur, that hurts" and the like

5)When your DC throws a tantrum in a restaurant, do you a) leave, b)stay and let them ruin other peoples dinners or c) take them out of the room, wait for them to calm down, then return to the table?  We try to redirect and usually break down and pick her up.  That usually stops it.  Also milk or water with a straw works great too!.  We have not had to leave except for my SIL's rehearsal dinner.   Hanging out after she is done eating is NOT her thing!  lol

    6) If you had problems producing enough milk, what were some things you did to feed DC enough.

Thankfully, I had no problems with producing enough and BF'd until 13 months.   I do say  that having a freezer stash helps tremendously though.  There were times when I felt just empty and she was still wanting to nurse, we had the option of getting a bag of frozen BM to satisfy her.  I was VERY thankful for that!

7)When did dc quit sleeping in your room?  We moved her out of the basinette and into her crib at about 5.5 months.

8)Do you feel like you give yourself permission to get out of the house and do things that you consider wasting time?

I work from home when I'm not traveling.  So for me, I feel like I have all day here by myself.   Sometimes I take a shower after I take her to daycare and it feels great to not be rushed and having to watch a toddler.  I can also run the the store and do whatever errands I need to do during the day.  I feel very lucky that way.

9)whats going on this week?  Questions for next week?  Family photo's this weekend.  Santa photo's this weekend.  Big announcements at work on Wednesday.  I have a new position in the new year and it will finally be announced and I don't have to keep it a secret anymore and can finally know all the details myself!

  • 1)What is the worst peice of parenting advise you have gotten? Oh geez, fortunately not a lot but these are my favorite

    • Wake up your baby
    • Put them to bed later to see if he'll sleep later
    • Give him formula to help him sleep longer

2)when did you get more of a feeding schedule instead of on demand? I don't know - maybe 4-5 months. It just evolves and we are still not on a specific time schedule, but we are on a routine of every 4 hours (it was 2 then 3). Do not stress about a schedule just let them do what they need to do within reason.

3)At what point does poop become more solid? When they have solid food. Imagine that. :)

4)How do you stop toddlers from grabbing things other than "NO NO"? Even now, when we take something away we replace it with something they can have "this is mamma's, this is Carson's". If DS is into something "yucky" or "dangerous" we tell him "No" and why with those words - to which he already shakes his head - it's funny.

5)When your DC throws a tantrum in a restaurant, do you a) leave, b)stay and let them ruin other peoples dinners or c) take them out of the room, wait for them to calm down, then return to the table? C

    6) If you had problems producing enough milk, what were some things you did to feed DC enough. n/a

7)When did dc quit sleeping in your room? 12 days

8)Do you feel like you give yourself permission to get out of the house and do things that you consider wasting time? Yes, you have to!

9)whats going on this week?  Questions for next week? 4 teeth coming in at once for DS and the whole family has a cold. Good times.

  • 1)What is the worst peice of parenting advise you have gotten? My MIL was constantly on me that DD wasn't getting enough to eat while nursing. I was able to ignore her.

2)when did you get more of a feeding schedule instead of on demand? 5 months old. I realized DD really did better on a schedule, and has ever since.

3)At what point does poop become more solid? When she was eating solids full time.

4)How do you stop toddlers from grabbing things other than "NO NO"? I like Jill's "one finger touch."

5)When your DC throws a tantrum in a restaurant, do you a) leave, b)stay and let them ruin other peoples dinners or c) take them out of the room, wait for them to calm down, then return to the table? This has never happeneded to us, but I think if it did, we would just take her out of the room and then return to the table. DD loves to eat out!

    6) If you had problems producing enough milk, what were some things you did to feed DC enough. n/a

7)When did dc quit sleeping in your room? DD still does sleep in our room randomly. We cosleep on and off still.

8)Do you feel like you give yourself permission to get out of the house and do things that you consider wasting time? No

9)whats going on this week?  Questions for next week?

  • 1)What is the worst peice of parenting advise you have gotten? My mom tells me all the time that I let DD sleep too much and that I should keep her up for longer stretches during the day. But, she STTN 12+ hours so I'm not going to change what's working!

2)when did you get more of a feeding schedule instead of on demand? This was my question... when I am home with her DD is on a fairly consistent schedule but our nanny seems to feed her much more frequently and with no routine. Thinking about creating a schedule to help with this...

3)At what point does poop become more solid? DD is a little more solid since adding solid meals but still very soft.

4)How do you stop toddlers from grabbing things other than "NO NO"? Someone on the board suggested one finger touching and that has worked great with our toddler neighbor kids!

5)When your DC throws a tantrum in a restaurant, do you a) leave, b)stay and let them ruin other peoples dinners or c) take them out of the room, wait for them to calm down, then return to the table? Hasn't happened yet... but we don't go out very often.

    6) If you had problems producing enough milk, what were some things you did to feed DC enough. I had a dip in supply a month or so ago and I added an extra pumping session and did a 3 day nursing vacation. It worked really well!

7)When did dc quit sleeping in your room? I think about 6 weeks or so...

8)Do you feel like you give yourself permission to get out of the house and do things that you consider wasting time? I try to every now and then but I know I need to do it more often.

9)whats going on this week? Questions for next week? Just realized I have no idea! I better check my calendar... I think I have a dentist appt...

  • )What is the worst peice of parenting advise you have gotten? You can set a baby's schedule....HA!  He tells us where and when!

2)when did you get more of a feeding schedule instead of on demand?about 4 months.  Or at least I picked up on his cues to eat and it was about every 3 hours

3)At what point does poop become more solid? Um usually we have HARD rabbit turds!  But he is typically pretty constipated.

4)How do you stop toddlers from grabbing things other than "NO NO"? When he is grabbing the cat we say "Be nice"   or "Not for Cruz"

5)When your DC throws a tantrum in a restaurant, do you a) leave, b)stay and let them ruin other peoples dinners or c) take them out of the room, wait for them to calm down, then return to the table?  Usually C, That said we sort of have a eating out routine down, We order for Cruz immediately when we get there and ask for extra straws for him to play with.  We recently have been able to bring a dvd player and put in baby boost and he will watch that for a good 10 minutes at a time.  we also bring cars and stuff for him to play with.  (we also try to get a booth so that he can run around between us when he is bored)

    6) If you had problems producing enough milk, what were some things you did to feed DC enough. We always did a formula bottle at night that dh gave Cruz

7)When did dc quit sleeping in your room? 4 weeks

8)Do you feel like you give yourself permission to get out of the house and do things that you consider wasting time? Just recently.  I love being able to take him to the club and go have my "spa" time (which is usually working out and then 10 min in the steam room" and I have a nanny for 5 hours every wed for me time.

9)whats going on this week?  Questions for next week?we got our christmas lights up and I need to go do christmas pics!

  • 1)What is the worst peice of parenting advise you have gotten? Regarding teething: "Just put whiskey on her gums."

2)when did you get more of a feeding schedule instead of on demand? I can't really say. MIL does daytime feeding and I still don't quite know what she does.

3)At what point does poop become more solid? when food becomes more solid

4)How do you stop toddlers from grabbing things other than "NO NO"? We use one finger touching, it works great so far.

5)When your DC throws a tantrum in a restaurant, do you a) leave, b)stay and let them ruin other peoples dinners or c) take them out of the room, wait for them to calm down, then return to the table? haven't had that happen yet

    6) If you had problems producing enough milk, what were some things you did to feed DC enough. add a pumping session, took fenugreek, oatmeal, positive thought.

7)When did dc quit sleeping in your room? She started going to bed in her room when she was 6 weeks old but still sleeps in our room part of the night

8)Do you feel like you give yourself permission to get out of the house and do things that you consider wasting time? yes because I see DD so little I feel like any time away from her is a waste of time

9)whats going on this week?  Questions for next week? Sydney is working hard on walking so I've got to up the babyproofing a notch, we're going to try and get Christmas decorations up this week too.

Question: Do you plan on putting up a Christmas tree? If you are what are you doing to keep DC from knocking it over/eating the ornaments/causing general chaos?

  • 1)What is the worst peice of parenting advise you have gotten? Once, when my son was misbehaving, I was told to take away his birthday.

2)when did you get more of a feeding schedule instead of on demand? Not there yet with Ella, with Luke it was after he started solids

3)At what point does poop become more solid? Not there yet with Ella, but with Luke it was at around 9 months

4)How do you stop toddlers from grabbing things other than "NO NO"? Provide a trade of what they are allowed to touch.

5)When your DC throws a tantrum in a restaurant, do you a) leave, b)stay and let them ruin other peoples dinners or c) take them out of the room, wait for them to calm down, then return to the table? C and then if that doesn't work, A.

    6) If you had problems producing enough milk, what were some things you did to feed DC enough. I have been fortunate enough to not have this problem.

7)When did dc quit sleeping in your room? Luke it was at 3 months, Ella is almost 5  months and still sleeping with us.

8)Do you feel like you give yourself permission to get out of the house and do things that you consider wasting time? This was my question. I am new at being a sahm and before I would relax by window shopping, driving around, etc. Since becoming a sahm mom, I feel like I am supposed to stay home, unless I have specific errands. I have to remind myself that it is okay to do those things still, that I am not skipping out on "my job".

9)whats going on this week?  Questions for next week? Luke has his first band concert this week! I wish I had a video camera - I think I will ask a friend to borrow hers.

DD is in a phase of boob only to soothe. She used to use her paci and now she wants nothing to do with it. Any suggestions on how to get her to use something else, other then me, to soothe? And could this be teething related?

  • 1)What is the worst peice of parenting advise you have gotten?  I cannot really think of any bad advice.  Maybe I'm just blocking it all out... ha!!

4)How do you stop toddlers from grabbing things other than "NO NO"?  N/A.

5)When your DC throws a tantrum in a restaurant, do you a) leave, b)stay and let them ruin other peoples dinners or c) take them out of the room, wait for them to calm down, then return to the table?  We will probably do C.  It is hard to say though.

    6) If you had problems producing enough milk, what were some things you did to feed DC enough.  N/A.

7)When did dc quit sleeping in your room?  Since he is a preemie, he will probably be in his bassinet in our room for a long time.

8)Do you feel like you give yourself permission to get out of the house and do things that you consider wasting time?  Not sure.

9)whats going on this week?  Questions for next week?  We have a Santa and cookie thing Tuesday, Ray San's surgery Friday, bringing him back home (hopefully) Saturday, Seahawks game Sunday.

We say Danger for certain things like the fire place and stove and we say "oh no you aren't supposed to touch that" in a calm voice and for some reason that works.?5)When your DC throws a tantrum in a restaurant, do you a)?leave, b)stay and let them ruin other peoples dinners or c) take them out of the room, wait for them to calm down, then?return to the table? • 1)What is the worst peice of parenting advise you have gotten? Just give her some water between feedings - it'll make the time between them last longer. *given when DD was about five days old

2)when did you get more of a feeding schedule instead of on demand? honestly, I don't remember exactly when, it just sort of happened. We have a wacky schedule sometimes anyways, but she wakes up, eats, plays, sleeps and it continues through the day.

3)At what point does poop become more solid? As we've started introducing cereal/baby food it's gotten more solid.

4)How do you stop toddlers from grabbing things other than "NO NO"? Emma is only 7 months, but DH and I both say, "This is Mommy's/Daddy's, this isn't for Emma" then we give her something that's hers.

5)When your DC throws a tantrum in a restaurant, do you a) leave, b)stay and let them ruin other peoples dinners or c) take them out of the room, wait for them to calm down, then return to the table? Not there yet, but we intend to take them out of the room.

    6) If you had problems producing enough milk, what were some things you did to feed DC enough.

7)When did dc quit sleeping in your room? still is...

8)Do you feel like you give yourself permission to get out of the house and do things that you consider wasting time? Sometimes.

9)whats going on this week?  Questions for next week? I don't know if I reported last week, but Emma started crawling! She's ALL OVER and picking up everything off the floor to inspect and, if I'm not fast enough, try to eat. She's also pulling herself up on stuff - I'm going to have a heart attack soon I'm sure!
