s/o Indian and Tai Food

I can't get into either. I tried.

I don't like the smell of Indian spices.

Tai just taste like a$s. (I tried a couple entrees. I really really tried b/c my friends love it).

I also tried Vietnamese once. My breath stunk for a week before that crap finally left my system. No amount of Lysterine would fix it.

  • Indian food is the shiz. Period.

Thai food is awesome, especially thai peanut chicken. ::drool::

Vietnamese food is good, I presonally only really like Pho. Which is my all time favorite food on this planet. It's the best "I'm sick" food. Plus it's yummy.

  • Are you my mother?
Seriously, she despises it. I fed L chana masala a few weeks ago and my mom swore she could smell it on her breath for days. Riiiiight.

  • Indian:  Try Tikka Masala (butter chicken) or Tandoori chicken.

Thai:  Try Rama Garden (peanut sauce over steamed veggies with chicken, pork, beef or tofu.

Vietnamese:  Pho Ga (chicken pho) with extra hoisin, siracha (sp?) with a side of tofu fresh rolls.

I'm also a meat and potatoes girl but holy bats the above dishes are glorious.

  • I have never tried Thai or Vietnemese food, but I've tried a couple of Indian foods and I didn't like them. I tried Tandoori chicken...yuck.

I prefer Pho Ba, I like mine with steak or steak, brisket, and flank. Lots of lime, chinese basil, and a little siracha.

    Amen.

If I could afford the time to do it every night, we'd live off of lentil curries, chicken korma, and saag paneer.  I have a great thai recipe for a basil red curry beef.  LOVE it.  Thai. Middle Eastern. Indian.

  • I think you tried the wrong things. MIL is very meat and potatoes and doesn't like to branch out, but we have found foods in each of those cuisines that she really enjoyed. You need to go with someone knowledgeable enough to show you what you'll like as you get used to the different spices.

And now I want Indian dammit!

  • Indian, I can take it or leave it.

But Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese...I love it all.  Especially Korean.  And if you had an issue with Thai and Vietnamese then I would NOT recommend Korean.  They are very heavy on the garlic and spice.

We only really go out for Indian, Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese. Those are foods that I can't master cooking on my own, so they are worthy of a splurge to me. Spending money on Italian/american/continental/meat/potatoes is frivolous to me. I can do boring food on my own.

Oh and I believe that people's personalities parallel their eating habits. Under stimulated taste buds = equally tame brains.

We do our Indian from this book:  https://www.amazon.com/Classic-Curries-Step-By-Step-Manisha-Kanani/dp/0831756772/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341889887&sr=8-1&keywords=50+classic+curries

(we did NOT pay $205 for it.  We got it for $5 on sale but it's worth buying used OR getting from the library).

    My favorite is this one:

    https://www.amazon.com/Madhur-Jaffreys-Ultimate-Curry-Bible/dp/0091874157/ref=sr_1_10?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1341889996&sr=1-10&keywords=madhur+jaffrey

It's seriously worth playing with.  Homemade naan is the bee's knees.
