Baby Names

"Older" girl names

We like older names, DD is Cora, We are considering Lucy if this one is a girl. Any thoughts on other "older" names? We looked it up online & it actually seems like Lucy is becoming very popular which is making me hesitant.

Thanks ladies!

Re: "Older" girl names

  • I wouldn't consider Lucy popular but I agree it is coming back a little, but Cora kind of is too. I love Cora and Lucy together.

  • The 100 year old resurgence is in full force, I think, so a lot of the old names are coming back.  The nice thing with Lucy is that it's timeless.  I say go with Lucy - Cora and Lucy are lovely together.

  • I had a Beatrice last year in my class and everyone called her Bea. She was super spunky and creative. :-)

  • I really like older names too. I like Cora and Lucy, they sound really sweet together. I actually gave my son the middle name Richard, but I named him after my grandfather.

    I like older names like

Eleanor, Margaret, Margot, Charlotte, Caroline, Pearl, Vera, Clara

    Everett, William, Henry, Arthur, Warren

  • Lucy is our girl name for this baby. I doubt it will crack the top 10 or even 25 soon, so I'm fine with it. I don't know any kids in my social circle with this name, and I love it!

Other "older" names I love (that DH vetoed)

    Eleanor

    Claire

    Ivy

  • If this baby is a girl she will be Cora!! I LOVE it! My DD now is Liza and she gets complimented on it all the time. It's an older name.

  • I love Cora and Lucy together, both are on my long list. You might also like Ruby or Audrey. (Two of my favs.)

  • I love older names. DD is named Clara, and I've never met anyone with her name (although it is rising in popularity slowly, too). I will probably name a DD2 (if I have one eventually) Rose - also an old girl's name. In general, I think old girls name's are becoming more popular, but especially here on the bump. I think Cora and Lucy are both GREAT names and make a fabulous sib set. I say go for it!

I think they are definitely making a comeback, but I still love older/classic names (DD is Betty). Lucy is a great name. I hear it talked about on here, but I don't know any little girls in real life with that name.

Some other favorites: Agnes, Esther, Helen, Eleanor, Estelle

  • Love Cora..  Tess(dd), Mabel, Matilda(Tilly), Maeve

I def. think older names are becoming a bit more common but wouldn't lump that with most other trends since they are mostly classic
